Part 1 - Introduction to Quranic Sciences

Part 1 - Introduction to Quranic Sciences

Praise be to Allah (سبحانه وتعالى), who has favored Mankind by revealing to it, Al Qur’an - A Straight Path, A Guidance, A Light, A Clear Message and A Warning. For Allah (سبحانه وتعالى) has said:

“And, , this is My path, which is straight, so follow it; and do not follow ways, for you will be separated from His way. This has He instructed you that you may become righteous.” (Sahih International - 6:15)

“O mankind, there has to come to you instruction from your Lord and healing for what is in the breasts and guidance and mercy for the believers.” (Sahih International - 10:57)

“O mankind, there has come to you a conclusive proof from your Lord, and We have sent down to you a clear light.” (Sahih International - 4:174)

“This is a clear message for mankind in order that they may be warned thereby, and that they may know that He is only One Allah, and that men of understanding may take heed.” (Pickthall - 14:52)

And

“As a giver of good tidings and a warner; but most of them turn away, so they do not hear.” (Sahih International - 41:4)

The Qur’an, is a noble reminder of the truth - full of mercy and wisdom for the entire Mankind. We are certainly in loss, if we turn our backs to this mercy. Allah (سبحانه وتعالى) says:

“And We send down of the Qur'an that which is healing and mercy for the believers, but it does not increase the wrongdoers except in loss.” (Yusuf Ali – 17:82)

It is therefore required for each an every Muslim to make an endeavor to learn the Qur’an, to contemplate over its meanings and to incorporate the understanding of the Qur’an into daily life. We, as Muslims, should be frequently, if not constantly, engaged in this life long effort toward a better understanding and appreciation of the words of Allah (سبحانه وتعالى). A life long relationship with the Qur'an must be cultivated and nurtured because Allah (سبحانه وتعالى) has said:

“And this is a blessed Book (the Qur'an) which We have sent down, so follow it and fear Allah (i.e. do not disobey His Orders), that you may receive mercy (i.e. saved from the torment of Hell.)” (Muhsin Khan – 6:155)

Although there are a variety of fields of study on the Qur'an, the subject that most interests and fascinates me, is that of Ulum al Qur'an, which deals with the history, revelations, context and the implementation of the Qur'an. This type of knowledge increases our appreciation of the Qur'an and allows us to connect with the speech of Allah on a higher level then perhaps what can be achieved through simple, repetitive recitation of the Qur'an.

What follows (إن شاء الله ) is a small effort in trying to increase my own knowledge in this subject with the hope that it may also benefit others. Since I have very limited knowledge on the various topics generally covered under the massive subject of Uloom al Qur'an, إن شاء الله, I will rely entirely on the many published works by renowned and widely accepted scholars. This community page will serve as a mere collection of these works and will not إن شاء الله, represent my own opinion on these matters. In fact, the majority of the works posted by Quranic Science will be taken from 'An Introduction To The Sciences Of The Qur'aan' by Abu Ammaar Yasir Qadhi. So much so that it would be redundant to give this book credit for every post. The reader should assume that the majority of opinions have been taken from this book and I will not be giving credit to this book at every occasion.

May Allah protect me and what I type from the innovations of Ash-Shaytan and May the reader only take away what is beneficial and leave behind that which is erroneously and misleading.
