ISME AZAM IN QURAN

By deem68

No one knows how many names Allah has except Allah Himself, and all of them are beautiful. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: ?Allah has ninety-nine names; whoever learns them will enter Paradise.? Among them is the Greatest Name of Allah which, if He is called upon by it, He will respond, and if He is asked by it, He will give. According to the most correct view of Muslim jurists, the Greatest Name of Allah includes a number of names. This is based on the hadiths reported in this regard.
It is reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) heard a man saying, ?O Allah! I ask You that I witness that You are the Lord, there is no god but You, the Eternal, the Absolute, Who begets not, nor is He begotten, and there is none like unto Him.? Thereupon, the Prophet said, ?By Whom in Whose Hands my soul lies, he asked Allah with His Greatest Name with which if He was called, He would answer, and if He was asked, He would give.?

It is also reported that once a man performed his Prayer and then supplicated Allah saying, ?O Allah! I ask You that all praise is due to You. There is no god but You, the Most Kind, the Most Bounteous, the Originator of the heavens and the earth, the One Full of Majesty and Honor. O Living, O Eternal!? Thereupon, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, ?Do you know with which this man has supplicated?? The Companions said, ?Allah and His Messenger know best.? The Prophet said, ?By Whom in Whose Hands my soul lies, he supplicated Allah with His Greatest Name with which if He was called, He would answer, and if He was asked, He would give?

It was also reported that Asma? bint Yazid ibn As-Sakan said: ?I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say about these two verses, (Allah! None has the right to be worshipped but He, the Ever Living, the One Who sustains and protects all that exists?) (Al-Baraqah 2: 255) and (Alif-Laam-Meem. Allah! None has the right to be worshipped but He, the Ever Living, the One Who sustains and protects all that exists) (Aal `Imran 3:1-2) that they contain the Greatest Name of Allah.?

Having said the above, it becomes clear that the Greatest Name of Allah include a number of names as is clear from the above-mentioned narrations. They all include the Oneness of Allah and not to associate partners with Him. So, we should ask Allah by His names especially His Greatest Name.

ISME AZAM FROM TAFSEER IBN KATHIR( Vol 2--from the tafseer of Ayat Al-Kursi)

Ibn marduwyah recorded that Abu Umamah reported the Prophet(PBUH) said:
?ALLAH?S greatest names, if HE was supplicated with it, HE answers the supplication, is in three Surahs---Al-Baqarah, Al Imran, and Ta-Ha?

1) Allah! None has the right to be worshipped but He, the Ever Living, the One Who sustains and protects all that exists?) (Al-Baraqah 2: 255)

2) Alif-Laam-Meem. Allah! None has the right to be worshipped but He, the Ever Living, the One Who sustains and protects all that exists) (Aal `Imran 3:1-2)

3) And all faces shall be humbled before ALLAH, the Ever Living, the One Who sustains and protects all that exists( 20:111)

Tafsir Ibn Kathir(Vol 1---Tafsir of Surah Al-Baqarah)

Shahr bin Hawshab reported that Asma bint Yazid bin As-Sakan narrated that Allah's Messenger(PBUH) said:
''Allah's Greatest Name is mentioned in these two Ayat"
1) And your Ilah (God ) is One Ilah (God---Allah), La ilaha illa Huwa ( there is none who has the right to be worshipped but He), the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful(2:163)

2) Alif-Laam-Meem. Allah! None has the right to be worshipped but He, the Ever Living, the One Who sustains and protects all that exists) (Aal `Imran 3:1-2)

Allah Almighty knows best.

tahnks sister aubrietia for sharing this info with us. i just wannt to add a little bit in it.

Hazrat Ma'qal bin Yasaar (R.A) narrates that Rasulullah said:
"Whoever recites 3 times in the morning:

Aoozo billahis sameeil aleem minash-shaitanir-rajeem.

and thereafter the last 3 ayats of Surah Hashr 1 time, 70 000 Angels are appointed by Allah, who seek forgiveness on his behalf till the evening. Should he die during the day, he will die as a Shaheed (martyr). Whosoever recites the above dua in the evening will enjoy the same virtue till the morning."

Last 3 verses of Surah Hashr (recite once)

Huwal lahul lazi lailaha illa huwa alimul ghaibi wash-shahadati huwar Rahmanur Raheem. Huwal lahul lazi lailaha illa huwal malikul quddoosus salamul muminul muhaiminul azeezul jabbarul mutakabbir. Subhanal lahi amma yushrikoon. Huwallahul khaliqul bariul musawwiru lahul asmaul husna. Yusabihu lahu mafis samawati wal ard wahuwa azeezul hakeem.

aubrietia (July 28, 2006 at 9:34am)
059.022 Allah is He, than Whom there is no other god;- Who knows (all things) both secret and open; He, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

059.023 Allah is He, than Whom there is no other god;- the Sovereign, the Holy One, the Source of Peace (and Perfection), the Guardian of Faith, the Preserver of Safety, the Exalted in Might, the Irresistible, the Supreme: Glory to Allah! (High is He) above the partners they attribute to Him.

059.024 He is Allah, the Creator, the Evolver, the Bestower of Forms (or Colours). To Him belong the Most Beautiful Names: whatever is in the heavens and on earth, doth declare His Praises and Glory: and He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.
