has added a new journalViolence erupted in the Kenyan capital of Nairobi and in opposition strongholds across the country in response to the controversial elections that took place on December 27 2007.
Around 600 people are feared dead, with around half a million reported to have been displaced.
Displaced
The internally displaced persons (IDPs) are currently sheltering in parks, churches, police stations and public compounds. Reported incidents of rape have risen dramatically; with the Nairobi Women?s Hospital reporting levels more than double those before the protests began.
The transportation of supplies is beginning to resume as road blocks are lifted and the security situation improves.
However, the violence is escalating and the number of IDPs is increasing. These people are in urgent need of adequate shelter, food and water, clothing and medical aid. Those worst affected are children, women and the elderly.

has added a new journalSalam and Hello everyone
We have been receiving many enquiries from you about how you can get involved and help raise funds for the people of Bangladesh.
Islamic Relief has launched a ?3 million appeal for Bangladesh and if there is anything you can do to help us achieve this target, it would be fantastic.
o The first thing that you can do is to donate yourself: www.islamic-relief.com
o You can contact your local Islamic Relief Office and ask them what you can do
o You can organise your own event with your friends and family and ask your local Islamic Relief fundraising Office to help: www.islamic-relief.com
o Use the internet to spread the word and to raise awareness and donations. You can do this by uploading details of the Islamic Relief Appeal to social bookmarking sites such as Digg and StumbleUpon. (go to www.islamic-relief.com and click the bookmarking icons)
o If you have a blog, post about the appeal and link to Islamic Relief
o pass the www.islamic-relief.com link around to as many websites, blogs, forums etc and friends as you can
These are just some of the things you can do to help the appeal. Of course pray for the people and for the families affected by this cyclone first.
If you have any questions about helping us in this appeal please contact us.
Many thanks for you support

has added a new journalMore than 600,000 people have now been evacuated from Bangladesh?s coastal areas as cyclone Sidr bears its full force on the country.
Danger alerts along the coast are at their highest and the cyclonic storm has been classed as a category 4.
Around 10 million people live on Bangladesh?s coast, but there are only enough storm shelters for a half a million people. Many people are sheltering in concrete buildings, such as schools or mosques.

Islamic Relief USA is currently working on several campaigns around the world, I would urge each one of you to at least visit them @ www.irw.org and see how you could help!
Allah SWT has given us lots of opportunities to help the humanity and it?s up to us to avail these chances. As we read in Quran -- Surah 93 (Ad-Dhuha). The Morning Hours, Morning Bright! ?1. By the Glorious Morning Light, 2. And by the Night when it is still, 3. Thy Guardian-Lord hath not forsaken thee, nor is He displeased. 4. And verily the Hereafter will be better for thee than the present. 5. And soon will thy Guardian-Lord give thee (that wherewith) thou shalt be well-pleased. 6. Did He not find thee an orphan and give thee shelter (and care)? 7. And He found thee wandering, and He gave thee guidance. 8. And He found thee in need, and made thee independent. 9. Therefore, treat not the orphan with harshness, 10. Nor repulse the petitioner (unheard). 11. But the bounty of the Lord - rehearse and proclaim!?
So please visit them, lean about them and see how you could help.
On the side note, few hours ago major quake (magnitude 7.9) and several powerful aftershocks hit COAST OF CENTRAL PERU, and I am not sure how bad the situation is, besides praying I am not sure what we as individual or as a community could do for those folks.
Wa`Salaam,
Hassnain
Note: besides contributing to their causes I don?t have any affiliation with Islamic Relief; I admire their consistency and dedication to help the suffering humanity.
