The juror is Dr. Allen F. Roberts is Professor of World Arts and Cultures
and French and Francophone Studies at UCLA, as well as director of the James
S. Coleman African Studies Center. He also serves on the advisory boards of
Islamic Studies and the Center for Religious Studies at UCLA. His PhD in
Anthropology was based upon four years of field research on cosmology,
politics, and the arts among Tabwa people of the Congo. The book and

director and chief curator, UCLA Fowler Museum of Cultural History), won the
College Art Association's Alfred H. Barr Award for Museum Scholarship. Most
recently, "A Saint in the City: Sufi Arts of Urban Senegal" (2003), also
organized with Polly, won the African Studies Association's Herskovits Prize
as the best book in African Studies of 2003, and the exhibition was hailed
by art critic Holland Cotter of The New York Times as one of the ten best

FEATURING 1,000 ARTISTS IN 43 SACRED EVENTS OF MUSIC AND MOVEMENT OVER 16 DAYS, IN VENUES ALL OVER THE LOS ANGELES AREA IN THE

SPIRIT OF WORLD PEACE.

FESTIVALOFSACREDMUSIC.ORG.

1000 artists, 43 events, 16 days
"...one of the planet's biggest and most intriguing world-music festivals." - New York Times, May 2005

With the success of the 1999 and 2002 World Festival of Sacred Music - Los Angeles (WFSM-LA), a powerful coalition of arts, faith,

cultural, community, and environmental groups announce the 2005 Festival. WFSM-LA is the largest citywide Festival in Los Angeles

offering forty-three events over sixteen days in venues across Los Angeles region from September 17th to October 2nd.

From the Throat singers of Tuva, Siberia to music from the Czech Republic, Korea, Thailand, Mexico, and the magnificent diversity of

Los Angeles artists - the Festival provides opportunities for you to cross boundaries of religion, class, culture, race, and

language, to share cultural traditions and to contemplate the spiritual, ethical and ecological questions of our times.

The 43 events in the Festival are an invitation to our many communities to witness music both familiar and new. Through music, each

person in the audience can expand their definition of who they are as members of this city, go beyond the familiar, and explore the

potential of intercultural and interfaith collaboration.
- Judy Mitoma, Festival Director

History: The first Festival was initiated by His Holiness the Dalai Lama in 1999 to mark the millennium with a message of peace,

cultural understanding, and spirituality: the goal was to present the Festival on four continents. Building on the success of the

?Americas? Festival, the LA organizing partners - UCLA Center for Intercultural Performance, Earthways Foundation, and the

Foundation for World Arts - committed to the creation of a new Festival in 2002 and every three years thereafter.

In 1999 & 2002 this non-commercial, community oriented, citywide Festival had a combined estimated attendance of 90,000 people.

Anyone going to Isna ? I'm trying to see if anyone else is interested in meeting up to network, hangout, whatever?

If 'yes' go to the ISNA village and post your comments/replies there under the journal with the same name..

I'm posting this message all over the place and it's just gonna get too confusing if I have to check 20 different villages to see

whats up! So please write your replies there.
