my friend sent me this email, and he's the one writing the intro below before the title "Stunning Gaza"
-------------------------------------------------

Salam,

I'm emailing you all an article written by the head of the Gaza Community Mental Health Hospital. He wrote about what has been happening in Gaza as of late. Since last Friday Israel resorted to a new tactic meant to disrupt life in Gaza. Thankfully it has stopped, but what we went through was something new and quite frankly frightening. They would fly their F-16 fighter jets at low altitude and break the sound barrier. When they do this it creates a sonic boom. The shear sound and magnitude is horrific. During the middle of the night they would do it 2 or 3 times. Imagine sleeping and everything is quite, then BOOOOM! Your heart beats a million seconds a minute after that. Three days ago they did it 7 times. Once is too much so imagine 7! Here's the article:

====================================

Stunning Gaza!

In the last days, Gaza was awakened from its dreams of liberation with horrible explosions which have shattered our skies, shaken our buildings, broken our windows, and threw the place into panic

We are being bombed since Friday 23 of September day and night. Usually between 2:00-4:00am, between 6:30 - 8:00 in the morning school going time, and in the afternoon or early evening.

The explosions are heard and felt all over the Gaza Strip with the same intensity. These explosions were used alongside the usual routine of killing and destruction which the Israelis forces are familiar with.

This new cycle of terror started with Israel assassinating four people in the West Bank town of Tolkarem. In the same day Islamic Jihad retaliated from Gaza by sending rockets to Israeli village of Sdirot. In the same day 19 people were killed during a military parade of Hamas. Apparently the cause was mishandling of explosive, but Hamas blamed Israel and joined Islamic Jihad in sending rockets to Sdirot where five people were injured.

Hamas quickly retracted and announced that it will stop all military operation from Gaza. Islamic Jihad followed with assertion that it will abide by the truce. Israeli campaign of bombing continues. Last night I, with all Gazans, were awakened by the horrible noise twice, 3:30am and at 7:15am. I hardly was able to sleep in between. Five more explosions were directed at us in the last four hours, one has shaken my desk while I am writing.

Gaza is in a state of panic, children are restless, crying, frightened and many are wetting their beds. Some children are afraid leaving home and they refuse to go to school. Many are dazed, pale, insomniac and have poor appetite.

Some pregnant women reported colics and some were admitted to hospital with precipitated labour. Many people complain of ear pressure. All are stunned

The new method of exploding sonic bombs in our skies was obviously never used before the disengagement so as not to alarm or hurt the Israeli settlers and their children.

Israel is inducing learned helplessness to the Palestinians in Gaza with the aim of making the whole population captive to fear and paralysis. This is a war crime and this is a racist crime. Israel must be stopped.

Subhan-Allah, watching the news my dad who I've only seen cry when his mother died, had his eyes swell up with tears when looking at the people in Ghaza and seeing the happy rejoicing!

Another amazing thing to watch was how many people were dropping into sajdah, so beautiful. All the hugging, and big wide smiles. Alhamdu-LIlah.

What are your thoughts?

Khair inshallah; there will still be Ibtilaa2 (trials).

I hope this makes it easier to visit Gaza, not only from its people like me, but any other Palestinian, Arab or Muslim.

To me, that doesn't hold any promise of good coming the way of my people there.

All I care is if this move by the Israelis will allow me to see my maternal grandparents and many maternal uncles and aunts and cousins there..whom I can't visit even with my Western passport.

These relatives of mine, first of whom are my grandparents, I never sat with them enough. Last time I was in Gaza was between July and August of 1993, for a month, and anther one-month visit 8 years before that last one, and ...that's ALL :( I have a maternal uncle in UAE whom I NEVER met, another who immigrated to the country I'm in now few years ago..and before that I enver met him,...and an uncle whom I last saw in my first visit to Gaza, unable to see him in the 2nd time because he was in prision, and got out only after 8 years in it. I have maybe 50 first cousins, both paternal and maternals, but I like my maternal half and side of the family more :s

I just...love my grandparents so much. My grandpa is a tailor who had sprained his ankle falling off his bike on his way to his shop in Gaza, so in my last visit (I was barely 14) he was limping and had a stick with his hand, and it was still the 'first Intifada' then, and I wanted to feel I'm really Palestinian, you know, so..I got out to 'throw rocks'. It was such an amazing feeling to be in a place where EVERYONE around you is Palestinian AND Ghazzawi like you!!! I threw few rocks at an Israeli jeep, but had to go home because my grandpa came in his pj's on his stick..outside..after me, wanting me to go back inside. I couldn't stand seeing him coming all that way for me to return home safe, so I rushed to him and went back inside.

A whole month in Gaza back then..I didn't even get to see my dad's family's house (which is now a several-story building, inhabited by his cousins). I was told to be patient till he comes from Kuwait and then I'll get to move around more with him, since my only uncle living with my grandparents (then single) was busy working, and there was always a curfew after 9pm plus no real 'electricity' in the roads, so everyone went home early and slept early.

It was to be dad's first visit to Gaza since the late 1960's, people!! so almost 30 years!!! My mom and youngest uncle couldn't believe they finally got the Israelis to allow him a visit to his hometown, and there we were hearing he's on the way to Gaza by land from Egypt (after landing from Kuwait), only to be shocked that the Egyptians ordered him to go back to Kuwait!!!!!!! Why??? No reasonable reason!!!!! What I was told then was that...my dad (who's a mere lawyer in private companies) was mistaken as the father of a family consisting of the mother and kids..who were on the same plane..and the father was supposedly some 'Islamist' in a Kuwait Islamic society, so...they took my dad as him, despite citing a different lastname and my dad carrying his original, official papers..including the CURSED 'Egyptian Travel Document' (our so-called 'passport', issued for Palestinians who were once in Gaza under Egyptian control; it doesn't allow us however to live/study in Egypt, and to go through it..we must even get a VISA!!!!), so...my dad went back to Kuwait, mad and sad, called us and told us to rush back to Kuwait. And we did. We weren't carrying the Western passports we have now, but still..for me (and me only -a long story) it's complicated if I wanna go back with the Israelis there. No, I didn't 'do' anything to get them angry with me; to hell with them! Just a 'paper' problem.

Anyways, inshallah my grandparents continue to have good health...and Allah prolongs their stay in this world..till I go sit beside their feet..and hear from them about who they are, what they have been through, and everything a grandparent would tell his/her grandson. I almost never knew how that tastes, having lost my paternal grandfather in the late 1960's (i.e., before I was born) and my paternal grandmother was one with whom I wasn't close emotionally, despite her living with us in Kuwait for 15 years (in which I was of course a kid busy with his peers, not then as sensitive to kin relations like I am now).

I ask Allah to let me see seedi (my grandpa) w sitti / taita (my grandma) w akhwali w khaalaati (maternal uncles and aunts) very soon inshallah.

And Gaza is inshallah only the beginning, and we WON'T forget that Palestine is more than the 1967 territories. I reject this caricature >>> www.mahjoob.com. Palestine is more than Gaza Strip and the West Bank!!!

to be one is to act one. They're known for being tough, not physical strength, but intelligence and stubborness. Those "wanna be" ones disgrace the title for being lazy and simply having no life or future. I remember the best students in highschool were ghazawyeen, the best leaders in palestine were ghazawyeen, the most solid nation arised from gaza. What's the talk if no b_a_l_l_s back it up?
