a bit irresponsible of a club eh?
so my ducati buddy darrell found out about the mid atlantic ducati club last week and as luck would have it, they were having a ride on sat. so we went and there were about 19 guys and one girl, mostly ducati's one bimota, one aprilia, one suzuki, one yamaha or suzuki. 1 999, 1 996, 4 748's, the rest monsters.
the ride was split into 2 groups, level 1 was the fast people headed by a 55 year old "been racing since the 70's" guy named lou. level two by the 60 year old bimota driver. so of course i pull up behind lou, but darrell says "let's do level two today dood" heheh he was scared.... so we did the first leg in group one, boring....
after the pit stop at a shell station, darrell realized the err's in his ways and we lined up in group 1, proceeded to hit 140 on a flat farmland road with no intersections or anything. man it looked like a scene out of mad max. we were running in 4th and 5th, being held up by 2nd and 3rd. so we decided to pass at the next stop. from then on, i was in second on the back tire of LOU, i couldn't believe i was keeping up.... at lunch lou was wondering why i don't race... he'd been racing since the 70's and commented on my exit speed and throttle control and what not. i've never had a lesson and never been on a track, i've been a bit aprehensive until about a month ago, i think i'm ready now after 15 years of riding... heheh.
after lunch we headed back, and we took a turn onto a road and lou went over this hill, then the 996 wheelied insanely thru it, and then there was me..... i jumped my bike 3 to 4 feet in the air, darrell saw me go up, slew down and expected to see me sprawled out on the pavement.... but nope, i landed it kept going, waved my fist in excitement and looked back to see if darrell was gonna jump... ehhehehe (which he thought was me looking back to see if anyone saw me.)
well two lessons from that day.....
1:) i need proper gear, i am getting my bmw jacket back from my bro temporarily until i get a new one next month. then i work on sidi boots, then pants.
2:) i need to hit the track soon as i get some money. i haven't ridin this irresponsibly in 5 years. we were passiing cars thru double yellow lines all day like it was totally legal and safe.
so if anyone has a size 38 riding jacket they don't want, let me know.

i must be a slow learner... 'cos it took a good few 'incidents' to realize that the track is an appropriate venue to test limits. plenty of run-off, corner workers, ambulance at hand... with that kind of back up you can let it all hang out. the street on the other hand is fraught with random hazards and its only a matter of time before it catches up with you.
for some of us motorcycling is a hopeless addiction. at this juncture in my evolution i've come to the conclusion that if i do not visit a track regularly i will kill (or badly hurt) myself on the street. the track presents an adrenaline fix that only the most extreme of sports can match. and once you're intoxicated by its high, riding on the street is a very sobering if not maturing experience.
good luck on the track thing... keep us posted.
and i think i'm still not gonna pass double yellow soo much, on occasion, it's just asking for some minivan lady to call the cops and get into trouble. i like darrel and i stopping to take in the country while waiting for the car ahead to drive far away. figure, we're in no rush to get anywhere.
anyhow, we are gonna go ride at 10 in the morning, i went to ocean city at 6 in the morning today. i went for the beach, turned out to be biker day or something, the place was teeming with weekend show-offers. the water was grand though and nobody was on the beach, it was perfect, the waves were huge, surfers in the morning, then in the late evening, just me and a couple of buds on ducs. we had a house, but i wanted to come home to go to this party in arlington, should have stayed in ocean city, party no good. anyways i get to go ride with darrell in the morning, fun times. i'm at 31,400 now, i need an oil change, its been 7400 miles since my last.... it's a wonder my bike is still running.... and strong at that.
