I am collecting payment for those who wish to and can attend this on January 16th 2006. Cost is ?13. If you are interested, mail me for my account details. Booking deadline Dec 11th 2005.
A Fine Balance
Based on the Booker shortlisted novel by Rohinton Mistry
11-28 January 2006
India , 1975, and a callous government has declared a State of Emergency.
In these uncertain times, Dina Dalal - a spirited Parsi widow determined to avoid a second marriage - takes in a student boarder and two Hindu tailors into her ramshackle flat.
As the cruel policies of slum clearances and enforced birth control bring chaos to the city, the four strangers, whose lives have become inextricably linked, find themselves crossing divides of caste, class and religion to form the most unexpected of friendships.
Through arresting visual imagery, evocative sound and an ensemble of eight actors, Tamasha (creator of Strictly Dandia and the original East is East ) vividly captures an astonishing moment in India ?s history with a tender story of exceptional human spirit.
?A masterpiece of illumination and grace. Like all great fiction, it transforms our understanding of life? The Guardian on the novel
?You can bet that whatever is on the cutting-edge of multi-cultural Britain, Tamasha have sensed it.? The Herald
Directed by Kristine Landon-Smith Design by Sue Mayes Original score by Felix Cross Movement by Lawrence Evans
