Nab,

Thanks for the enlightning response.

Do you have any idea where the concept of the Imam carrying the "Noor of Allah' originated? As far as I know, Ali (recognized as the first Imam) did not claim this status and neither did the Prophet (PBUH).
I'm also not sure why there should be this range of responses (from spiritual leader to "Living God" in the Ismailies' relationship with the Imam. Given that the Aga Khan is a living Imam, why would he not clarify this issue of his role and status as Imam.
Third, while Taqiyah might have been an essential practice in earlier, Ismailies are much more visible in western countries, so why is there still a need for Taqiya

Rozaiba, you are correct that this conversation is becomming preposterous. Anybody want to burn down some embassies somewhere...anywhere....anyone???

OK, I know a number of Ismailies and have also done some research on them so here are my views. Ismaelies are among the most successful minorities in the US, Canada and the UK due to an exceptionaly strong focus on education for both male and female.

The Aga Khan is welcomed like royalty in most Muslim countries, including Iran, Pakistan, etc. He was recently awarded the Canada's top honor for his contributions to improving conditions in the developing world. He is also financing the building of a museum of Islamic Civilizations in Toronto to improve knowledge of Islam in the West and to spur interfaith dialogue. Lots of other stuff mentioned by Hamdani including the AK University in Karachi. So far I am envious.

My problem comes with the concept of a continuous Imamat and as far as I can tell, Ismaelis tend to view the Aga Khan in a range of ways from a spiritual leader to a living God and I cannot seem to get a straight answer to this issue. Hamdani, if you can clarify this issue I would be grateful.

MSLONDON and Silky sword..please do NOT feel that you have to respond

Agar Khan is nothing but a wealthy man living on donations given by you people to him, he hangs out with his daughter, who will most probably marry someone whose not even Islamic like her daddy did!!!

Agar Khan people give so much privilege to this man that they forget this is a shirrk as its against Islam, this is why Agar Khan people are classified as none Muslims!!

Looking back and learning more about Islam this religion is one of many sect that is incorrect and is destined to hell, many many sect will be developed before the day of judgement and only one is going to be correct!!
from 73 sect, only one is correct and you want to follow this fake!!!!

Come on Misslondon, we all know you are wanting to convert. The all-caps are really calling for attention to your desire to seek guidance from other great sects of Islam.

Foxglove: If this encourages you, then I wonder how much impressed you will be with everything else the Ismailis are invovled in.

MissLondon is highly impressed!

Encouraging...

Actually- the legend mentioned by Foxglove is true. The money then spent on the welfare of Ismailis, Muslims and humanity in general.

Foxglove: There are many such legends of the Imams. They are humoring but one shouldn't put too much stock in them.

Silkysword: Again, though it is tempting to seek refuge in conspiracy theories, I would advise you to refrain from entertaining such fallacies. In the end, look at the actions of people, who those actions help, rather than seeking to undercut them with the 'what is the REAL reason they are helping?' hallucination.

I don't know what would make this sect, along with that of the Qadyanis, so rich!!! Do they own their own oil wells, or are they financed by some WESTERN POWER(S)????

There is a 70+ year old former-Ismaili, now Sunni man who has a website where he refuted Isma'ilism. I forgot his name but I saw an article by him few days ago, something ilke Akberally. I'll look for it and send it IN PRIVATE to knowledgable Sunnis -since the guy spreads some 'misconceptions' too that I wouldn't want any commoner Sunni to read while not having our answer on them.

Only the Nizari subsect of Ismailism follow the Aga Khan (they are the largest subsect of Ismailism). They have set up some brilliant social development institutions, and are expected to pray three times a day. But the whole "flash-your-cash" thing freaks me out... Is it true that at the Aga Khan's Gold, Diamond and Platinum Jubilees, believers weighed their Imam in these three materials respectively?

Hamdani, you would know more about this than us - what's the scoop? :) On another note, how long did it take you to convert? What materials did you read?
