aggression

ok, I know this is a touchy topic and I do not mean to upset or offend anyone by it but it seems that we have a deverse group of people now so it might be a good time to make things interesting.

Do you believe that a man and a woman who share different faiths / sects in a faith specifically sunni/shia should be involved in marriage?

I ask because it seems to be more mainstream now. I have relatives who are shia who have been getting married to sunni women. It's their life, and I really do not have any specific preference or opinion for them because that is their life so it really does not matter to me.

Now, do you think that sunnis look down upon shias? I know that in the Middle East, Shias are looked upon just as bad as christians are. The Middle East is a disaster anyway but it still matters what the mainstream muslim thinks. Some sightings of what I am observing is when there is asgura in Pakistan, there is an escalation in violence and aggression against the shias.

Another example, look at Iraq, why is it that only the sunnis are causing havoc? Is it because they are so desperate to keep control over the shia and the Christian minority community (chaldeans)?

When a shia visits the Hajj, saudi arabia, is it that they are treated with disrespect? is it that at times they are even degraded and spit on?

In the extreme countries such as saudi arabia and pakistan, is it so that shias are looked upon as "kafirs"? I have done my research and asking around and it seems it is so.

The shia community and sect is basically Iran, Iraq, Lebanon and the rest are scattered around the world, you are looking at maybe around 100 million people at the most while the sunni community ranges around 900+ million.

I know the differences between the 2 sects, they are both obviously muslims and both follow the same message from the Quran other than a few differences.

Now the questions are :

1) Do you think shias should get married to sunnis? or vise versa?

2) Do you think that having the same faith as your significant other important and crutial for the children and presevation of religion and culture?

3) Do you think that shias are discriminted against and in some cases viewed and kafirs?

Keep it clean, im not all that religious but i do KNOW a lot about the subject.

BTW, if you find typos, oww well, this is a board, not a grammar class, im sure you can make out what i wrote above :)

I did go to fordson, No, i was not on the debate team :) I'm not a dork :)

High school was pretty boring though, but oww well, yes, i do respect your view, you make some valid points and i respect them.

I always try to follow what i believe as much as i can, I agree, we are all muslims, shia, sunni, all of of us. It's just that it feels like the sunni community, NOT all of them look upon shias as kafirs.

no sammie thats not my point.. my logic stems from.. ever since i've done my research on the monotheistic religions, and then further research on islam, and the different sects (other than just sunni and shia, most syrians are Alawi's which is like an extreme form of shia) i feel like "oh ok, i get it now" like i have found new purpose in religion and have been able to embrace islam and am working on following it more traditionaly. My brother always says " there is no such thing as religious; ur either muslim, or ur not" thats kinda harsh but he is so right mashallah 3laih. anyways sammie; my optimistic view on a happy shia and sunni couple, is jsut that, an optimistic view. u may think ur being a realist with what u beleive, and thats fine, i respect that. what ur labeled as, sunni or shia, is a label.. what ur beleifs and practices are define what kind of muslim u are. but thats just my opinion... sammie, did u go to fordson? were u on the debate team?
:-p i'm tellin u right now, im bad at debating..go easy on me ya.
beace.

Angel, thx for your feedback. Actually I do know a lot about the topic and I am not all that religious meaning that I do not pray 5 times a day and so on but i do follow my religion. You don't need to be a complete devoted muslim or christian to understand the religions.

About sunnis agreeing with you on ahlil baat, good luck, no religious sunni follows or beliefs in what they did for Islam, Only if they are zadi (muslims who use to be shia and are now sunni, most of them are in Yemen) do you believe somewhat in what they did.

I am sure not all sunni are like this and i am sure not all shia are like this but it is reality. I have many sunni and many shia friends so It's not like i hate sunnis, i have no problem with anyone, I am just interested in the divisions and why sides do not show respect towards others.

Actually my opinion is my opinion, this is an open board, anyone can respond anyway that they would like.

Yes, but you said as long as he believces in the ahlil bait, thats just it, thats what the whole division is about :) If the guy you wanted to marry truly believed in that than he would be a shia and not a sunni :) so you cant have it both ways, can he believe that ahlil bait and ali were good people and so on, sure he can, but can he believe what you believ in regards to them, no, i do not think so.

Ana again about your topic, I think you are gearing away from what the subject truly is about, you are trying to make yourself think that if you marry a sunni that somehow he would respect all the things that ahlil bait did, What you are not understanding is that this is where the split happens between sunni and shia happens :)

anyway, you do not have to follow christianity and judism or islam because you know a lot about it, so that point you made about it is illogical. You point says that in order for you to really mean and talk about something, than you need to follow it?

sammie, it seems that you only want to hear other ppl's opinions so that you can reinforce your own.(no disrespect). That being said, I have met various sunni muslims, and its safe to say that some sunni differ from other sunni as far as what they beleive about ahlil bait. and the same thing goes for shia. I would marry a sunni. If he beleived in Ahlil Bait, and devoted a high level of respect for the Prophets Progeny, then what makes him, as a sunni, so different from me, as a shia? As long as my kids grow up knowing who ahlil bait are and what they did for Islam, then i see no problem. And i doubt, ya sammie, that you are as educated about this topic as u claim to be. becuz if you were, you probably wouldnt admit to not being "all that religious". usually ppl who do that much research on a subject as controversial as this one find meaning in it and apply it to their lives. asalamu alaikum

ok, but you are incorrect.

1) you do not hear shias attacking sunnis do you?

2) shias are the majority in iraq and they never ruled, now with a democracy under law, the shias rule!

3) So you are chaldean, do you think that the sunnis or the shias will treat you better in iraq?

4) Yes, but even if you are not ultra religious, would it mean that you could and should marry what you want. Isn't it harder to agree and raise kids with different sides and view points?

5) about shias looking down, i have not seen any shias attacking any sunnis, have you?

6) I am happy that shias are now in power and they got it the right way through the democratic process. also i do not think that a shia would marry a christain before a sunni.

I respect your view. It's great to hear other peoples view. Did you go to Iraq when saddam was in power?

some questions :

1) why would sunnis bomb masques in iraq?

2) why would sunnis use mosques as battle grounds?

Here comes some expert advise from a Chaldean lol j/k.

To answer your first questions, I think it mostly depends on how religious the person is... if you're not a religious person you will not care whether your significant other is of a different sect. I guess this geos for question #2 as well, it just depends on how traditional and religous the 2 people are.

As for #3, from my personal experience with different religion friends, I find that Shias look down upon Sunnis just as much as Sunnis look down upon Shias. One of my best friends is a Shia Iraqi and he once told me that it would be better to marry a Christian woman than a Sunni.

When I was in Iraq, I didn't even know which of my neighbors were Shias or Sunnis, and me being a Chaldean was never discriminated against either. But I think they're very divided here in Michigan... I think the majority of the Iraqis here are Shias anyway.

And the reason that Sunnis are supposedly causing problems in Iraq right now is because they're not in power (i.e. if Sunnis were in power, Shias would be doing the same thing). Also, a lot of non-Iraqis are crossing the border from Syria and they're really the major source of problems, not Iraqis themselves.

I hope I didn't offend anybody, just giving my opinion, doesn't mean what I said is right.
