Ahmed Faraz
He is perhaps the most important urdu poet of the subcontinent, an agitational poet par excellence whose poetry is marked by sweetness and lyricism. There?s a quality of grace, a tremulous sensitivity, an ineffable beauty in his works about human relationships that has timeless appeal. Faraz?s poetry will certainly outlive him.
Faraz is a Pushto-speaking Pathan from the north west of Pakistan. He has been a political activist and at times has been jailed by the authoritarian Pakistani rulers. He was in exile during Zia-ul-Hak's rule.
He has since been rehabilitated and works as director general of the Academy of Letters in Islamabad. His most famous ghazal is perhaps the most famous Ghazal of Mehdi Hassan too.
