On the subject of racism, the prophet (saw) ordered us to cast it away for it is rotten. He also mentioned to someone who used a racist term that he is a person who still has jahiliya. Yet, it is sad to find that each group is sticking to racial and ethnic roots rather than to Islam. It shows how far we are going away from the true Islamic concepts. The title of this JE is racist by itself. May Allah guide us all !

I haven't accessed the link but I think that something similar to what seems to have occurred (by inference) happened to me recently. I was traveling on a very small plane and the man seated next to me began to flirt a bit (nothing ill mannered). While attempting to impress me with the importance of his work at a large medical center, he added that there are a lot of arabs working there and that its hard to be "surrounded by the enemy" all the time. Everything that may have been attractive about him disappeared as far as I was concerned and I mused the rest of the way about his ignorance. BTW, my portfolio was open and my business card had both my first and last name (both of arab derivation), which only made him seem even dumber.

Because I look more like my mom than my baba, I get to be the fly on the wall a lot. From this vantage point, I think that most people are racist at some level. I also think that many people fight against that element of self insofar as it is supported by internal or external pressures to do so.

Dilsemilaedil---It is not a stain upon you to extend yourself to others, rather it is a shame that they cannot genuinely accept your gesture. Remember that even Rasulallah (S) treated with kindness those who rebuked him and in so doing demonstrated the greatness of his character.

I have never met any Arabian male who was not racist.
Most of them their culture matters more apart from their religion.They can be friend with non Muslim Arabian ,but they WILL stab back any non Arabian Muslim.

They lie to fellow Muslims and deceive them out of their goodness and trust.

Even when a non Arab(as you call them Ajaamee) goes to Arab Mosque .She/He is made felt very un welcomed.
(eg here is famous Bridge view Mosque in IL)

I am not disagreeing with your argument plato. However, in your first post I was under the impression that you were denouncing him as an Arab. I just wanted to clarify that Mohammad was an Arab. I completely agree with not claiming him as anything but Muslim.

and i know using the yahood and maseheen and examples aren't the best idea.

but Jesus is never claimed as an arab or Palestinian, and Moses is never claimed as an Egyptian.

Moses is called Jewish by the Jews, and nothing else.
and Jesus is called Christian by the Christians. and nothing else.

Even Muslims don't call Moses and Egyptian, or Jesus a Palestinian (unless i'm doing it to prove a point, Jesus was Black baby! and born about half a days journey on donkey from my own hometown. )

i disagree.
giving him a claim to ethnicity devalues the whole shebang.
This "prophet was an arab" agrument, which usually comes out when some group or another is claiming some sort of twisted heiarchy.

Mohammad the man may have been an arab. who hailed from the region now kown as Saudi Arabia.
Mohammad the Prophet was not.
Mohammad the Prophet came for all people, represented all, and had no special ties to any group. The first Muslims, those whom he did share his life, and his loyalties with, where poor and ophaned, slaves, africans and babylonians, Yemenis and Arab, Male and Female. All equal.

claims of race, ethnicity and geographical origen are a mockery of the message.

Mohammad the man may have been born arab. He was also and orphan, an illiterate, and a male.

but no special claims are made by any of those groups (actually sometimes claims are made for the "male" part) even though for all intents and purposes he shared more in common with an female african orphan of today than with any saudi royal.

Mohammad the Prophet was absolutely not an Arab.

Mohammad the man, fine you can have that.
in which case i'm claiming Jesus as a Palestinian.

Thank you for the clarification. However, I understood what he was saying. He belongs to every single Muslim. But saying he is not Arab is wrong, he was. However, no Arab nation or person can claim special preference.

I do however agree that we should not call him anything but Muslim. I just thought I'd clarify.

Plato means that the Prophet's loyalty was to Islam and Muslims, not Arabs or Arabism; i.e., based on religious piety, not bloodline or ethnic origin. In that the Prophet's belongs to every Muslim nation on the earth, not only the Arabs! But ethnically and linguistically he's an Arab, nothing more, nothing less.

Wow...I didn't even see the link at the bottom of the post. I thought Fadi was just sharing an experience. Now that I read the article I completely agree with you, plato. I feel as though sometimes people say things on a whim and who are we to judge those who judge others...much ado about nothing indeed.

However, I do believe the prophet (pbuh) was an Arab. If he wasn't, then why was the Quran revealed in Arabic? A friend said that Saudis are wrong for claiming special preference, but at the same time you are mistaken for claiming the prophet (Pbuh) is not an Arab. Unless you have some historical facts to back up your claim.

i don't like it when people point out the Prophet was an arab.

cause that is exactly the kind of divisive stuff that sets up this kind of attitude, i've heard more than one saudi claim special preference because the Prophet was a saudi (and it never seems to register with them that saudi arabia wasn't extant until the 1900's, there fore the Prophet was NOT a saudi, and even if he was, his greatest enemies would therefore also be considered saudi's, but ah, people and their egos)

Another example of ignorance and hate our society breeds.

I like when people ask me if I'm Arab, this way I can proudly say "Yes, I am Arab." All their stereotypes and prejudgments are now turned upside down and they have to question them.
