Yea Dilfer was the choice of Phil Savage so i cant complain, i mean i'd rather have Holcomb but he's long gone so no looking back, Diler is smart in some aspects of the game so hopefully he wont throw a lotta INTs and just manage the game, since thats why he was brought in....Browns are lucky to get the QB they wanted in the 3rd round, Charlie Frye, i think he will be a good future QB for us...and yea i kno the AFC North is getting better lol, but its all good cause for the Browns its basically rebuilding, and since they came into the league in 99' this is the first year their building a solid foundation, fairly quickly...so hopefully in 2-3yrs. we'll be contending but it would be nice getting wins before that...
Trent Dilfer will man. They are smart. THey knew these QB's were garbage so they will wait till next year and grab a free agent or try and land Leinart.
Yea TE Heath Miller is going to be a good edition for the Steelers offense, he sorta looks like Todd Heap or plays like him, and is a real good blocker also. Most of the highlights they showed the defenders who were covering him were drafted the first day, and he either blocked over them or ran right passed them for a TD...their other picks were solid also...Yesterday i had BigBens Beef Jerkey for the first time, shyts the bomb! O wait, i'm a Browns fan...yea the the jerky was aight lol
No the Steelers were in love with Matt Jones. Every single website to do with Steelers football and every analyst said Steelers were high on Matt Jones. They did however ended up with the best TE in the draft which should provide a new threat in their offense.
I like the JETS pick man. Nugent is money. They are set everywhere man. Nugent is the best kicker to come out of college since Janikowski and obviously, if you watched the JETS, you know the reason they didn't make it to the AFC Championship game. Nugent is MONEY. Also, personally I like Benson but in my OPINION Cadillac is the best out of all 3 of them. I think Nomi brings up good points but that stuff shouldn't take away from the 60 whater TD'S he did get in the BIG 12. Definitely stupid of the Bears to take a RB though. I mean what exactly is their problem with Thomas Jones? The guy was playing like a STUD when he had a respectable QB in the backfield with him. Somebody please explain.
QB Adrian McPherson went to the Saints in the 5th round. I like this QB since he can throw well on the run and is extremely talented, a good pick with high risk-high reward potential.
Yea i think the Browns were very fortunate to get Frye in the 3rd round, since he was projected to go late first or second round. I think the Browns passed up on him cause they were just going for the best available at the time, and since they got rid of safetys Robert Griffith and Earl Little during this offseason they needed a play maker in the secondary and picked up S Brodney Poole, i dont know much bout Pool yet but he should help regardless..Frye is from the area being from Akron in the MAC, but even so i think he has a good upside and should form into a good true NFL QB, and is definatly a upgrade from the current backups Luke Mcnown and Josh Harris. I honestly think he was the 3rd best QB in this draft behind Smith and Rogers and quite a few mock drafts had him going to GB in the first round, but the Packs got lucky and jumped all over Rogers who i think will do well there, he may have lost millions of dollars dropping to the 24th pick but will learn a lot watching Favre do his thing...as for Frye, i think he has the skill to succeed and learn on his own since he does play smart, cause i dont know how much he will learn from watch Trent Dilfer play lol, maybe learn good work ethic and intangibles like that, but i'm still not sold on Dilfer.
samir, i agree with you...i was a little surprised too...you know what's really surprising to me is that mcpherson is still available...i would think someone would have tried out a 3rd round pick on a guy who's got all the tools to be a major qb...i mean, he is a risk in that he hasn't played much but you could say the same thing about some of the cb picks in the 2nd/3rd round. The thing is, in the end, none of us ever really knows what will happen with these guys...if we did, do you think ryan leaf would have ever been picked 2nd...or kijana carter 1st? I think the other thing that impacts players doing well is the style of offense/defense they get drafted into...i.e. a guy like cadillac, who functions so well in open space, is perfect for phily, the rams, and other more open offenses...a guy like benson or shelton fits better with the between the tackles, clocking killing offenses. Getting in the right offense and then having the personnel around you to succeed makes more of a difference then pure talent, imo. Look at the old argument of barry sanders vs emmitt smith. I'm the biggest barry sanders fan in the world but i think emmitt was better for that offense because of his ability to grind out yards, finish in the red zone, and block. Granted, he was on of the most talented offenses of all time and benefitted from an amazing offensive line. I think sanders would have had similar success, but not not been quite as ideal. However, if you put smith in the lions offense, i doubt he survives more than a few years in the league...you wouldn't even get a chance to see his incredible ability to find holes or wear down teams...
Don't know a lot about frye honestly...i know he was originally pretty well thought of but then interest cooled a bit, any reason why?
Yea when it comes to Benson i was kinda surprised the Bears picked him, i dont follow college football that much so i guess i cant really judge from style of play or just from his size, they described him as more of a fullback-ish typa back since he is fairly big which to me will have athletic nfl defenders getting to him before he hits the line of scrimmage..but Lovie Smith isnt a bad coach so who knows, i just thought since they have Thomas Jones why not try to fix other needs like at WR or even strenghtn their defense some more..when i was watching some of the draft and they showed the off.and def. rankings of each team, i think the goal of each team should be to have a solid all-around team on offense and defense, which is kinda obvious but i think thats the key to success, or something the Browns should at least work..like the Pats who ranked 7th on offense. and 9th in defense, as compared to the Colts who were 2nd on off.and like in the 20's on defense, or even the Chiefs who were 1st on off. and 45th on defense(their still my sleeper) lol....and in April isnt it supposed to be nice and sunny..? Why the fcuk is it snowing in Ohio!!....3-4inches today, great....well at least theres 4more rounds of the draft woohoo!!
gotta go to work...just a quick retort...name any games that either brown or williams has won on their own...auburn hasn't even won very many games during their tenure...and most would credit campbell evolution as a passer as the reason that auburn won. Ronnie brown didn't even start a game in college (not saying he's not a good back, just saying how your argument is ludicrous when comparing benson to those too). Let's see, off field issues...hmmm, benson likes to smoke a little ganja and happened to get caught. So do about 75% of college students. Not condoning it but that's not exactly a character problem. Ricky and Cedric are different people. I know it's hard for people that don't actually follow the program and see black dreadlocked texas running back but trust me. Benson's biggest similarity is running style. Ricky's always been a introvert and uncomfortable in the media spotlight...it's probably among the reasons that his career hasn't lived up to his talent. Personally, I don't feel that benson is in ricky's league talent wise, but obviously will have a longer career. If you bothered actually watch benson run (you know, instead of just going off of what espn.com tells you) and if you watched our offensive scheme, you'd realize that his numbers would have been even more phenemonal if he'd had an offensive game plan that was actually built around maximizing his talent. BTW, cities being upset about draft picks...you remember how lustily eagles fans booed when mcnabb got picked over williams...point is, time will tell. I guess neither of us will know for a while. I was surprised chicago picked him because i felt they had more pressing needs and thomas jones is a pretty good, young running back. However, if they're really building for the long term, benson is again, about the best choice for that climate and that tradition.
Yea i cant believe the Broncos chose Clarett so high, like i figured he would go eventually like in the 6th or 7th round but 3rd..daaamn....man he's so freakin slow lol, but Denver does know the talent at RB when they see it so who knows...they may even put him as a fullback or someting since he does run a 4.8, jsut pack a few pounds and he's good to go! lol
I just read the first page of this journel entry right now and noticed a Browns question from Salim so i must answer that heh heh lol..anyways, yea the Browns got the QB they wanted in Charlie Frye, i was shocked when they didnt pick him in the second round and ended up getting S Brodney Pool who was "projected" to go in the top 10 next year if he stayed for his senior year, i dont know much about him yet but GM Phil Savage did have him pretty high on his draft board so he must be alright, and is versatile like Carnell Lake was on the Steelers back in the day, can play corner and safety...but yea i think Charlie Frye will be a good fit for the Browns, i've seen him play a couple times and is accurate, smart and throws well on the run so the Browns got who they wanted, plus with Edwards on board also the Browns are set at WR but the only problem is freakin Trent Dilfer, who still hasnt grown on me and problaby wont until the first preseason game......the Jets choosing K Nugent from OSU was kinda odd for a second round pick, he is really good and the Jets did lose to the Steelers because of their kicking game so i guess they didnt want to take any chances....overall the first day seemed pretty good, with Detroit making the biggest mistake by picking M.Williams, i mean yea he might have been the best available and Mel Kipers "top" player but come on man, they have to fix that defense...and even with M.Williams there, i'm still not gonna take a chance this year in fantasy football and pick Joey Harrington like i did last year lol
benson...uhh...not a big game back? right dude. trust me, if you followed texas football, you would realize that the only thing limiting our players is the anemic intellect of our offensive coordinator, greg davis. he has cost us 5 straight losses. If you use the big game argument, you'd have whiffed on roy williams, who caught more td passes in his first game (2) then he did in 4 years against oklahoma. Benson is the _perfect_ back for the cold weather, a tough, between the tackles grinder ala emmitt smith, walter payton, ricky williams, etc. I think that cadillac fits the tampa offense better, with the flares and other pass patterns that gruden likes. As far as minnesota goes, williamson might end up being great, but picking a guy 7 that's available in the teens is stupid...you can always trade down and get another pick if you really if you have him rated higher....James was a good pick though
