So is anyone coming to the ISNA thing next weekend or not????? My offer is still on the table to organize an activity.
I have been to several ISNA conferences and it has definitely grown this year! I agree that there were too many sessions going on at one time which made it difficult to choose which one to attend. I think they did a great job sticking to the theme this year. I am disappointed that Imam Siraj Wahaj was not able to make it. He is an excellent speaker, MashaAllah. Overall, I enjoyed it and learned a lot.
MuslimaEgyptian, first of all I will say that any gathering of muslims on this scale should be commended, the feeling of being around soo many muslims, and from so many backgrounds is very positive. This was my first time at ISNA, so I am not sure what the schedule was in previous years, but I will say that Quality is in most cases better then quality, there were a lot of sessions, many of them happening simultaneously, so you couldn't make all the sessions. My only recommendation for the future is that they have a smaller number of sessions, or different tracks for people who are interested in specific subjects.
how was the conference? Did a lot of people attend? What are the observations of those who went...what stood out this year...what wasn't impressive...etc. Or was it the same as usual...? Without a doubt, it's always a wonderful feeling to be around that many Muslims and network with so many on that level...
or the glasses too dark... but i don't know shohob, i havn't really seen anybody do the 180 and be straight, like they still have some "side effects" sort of, like still got some tendancies of doing wrong, but my experience is somewhat limited, but say someone does the 180, does that mean you can trust them not to do wrong? everyone now knows your mistakes, will they ever look at you the same? just wondering about that
yah if people main purpose of going to ISNA is to drink and do haram thing, then why don't they just come to my back yard! lol j/k . i never been to ISNA, instead i prefer to read some Quran at home alone fee la7zeet takwaa.
theanisa, i read the link you had, and don't get me wrong, one of the people kind of had a point, about if people were going to dress modestly and what not, but at the same time, since it's not a ISNA sponsered event, and it's at a CLUB lol, this isn't exactly going to be a qur'an recitation session huh?
yeah inshallah, another problem is that the ISNA organaizers can't really do anything, since it's kind of out of thier jusristiction, but for those who go, have fun, sorry about the talk lately, if someone outside saw this convo, it would have gave ISNA a bad name, and it probably would deter people from going, but to those who go, please give us a good name (the people that aren't going), cuz weather we like it or not, us muslims are under the microscope, someone sees a "muslim" in the club drinking or something, theyll be like "dang, thier just like us..", so rep us well, and i guess there are some good people out there, so go meet them, and have a good time
There are unfortunetly muslims out there who do the whole drinking and clubbing and sleeping around.. thats a given.. allah ya7deehom.. It's just really disgusting to me that they would use an islamic conference as an excuse to go do such things. I mean come on. Where is the taqwa or the iman. It's really sad that this is what these people are equating islam with. Wallah ya izzy ana ma3ak.. i would kick some serious fuslim a$$. It's just to disheartening for me to go to events like this and see that araf going on even if my own intentions are pure. Believe me its hard to kind of stay away from it, it will be around you everywhere. You will either see it with your eyes or hear people speaking about it and if you are like me, it will make you very angry. For those of you that do go.. and I am sure insha'allah you're intentions are good. I really hope its a great experience for you guys and that you come back with more knoweldge and stronger faith than when you left Insha'allah.
you know what we should do? we should raid the places, and any muslims found should be kicked out of ISNA lol, and maybe taken out back and beat up, but that's just me lol
The Anisa, that is absolutely amazing, it's amazing how people are blatantly just advocating the drinking of Alcohol on a what is supposed to be a muslim site.
yeah thats true aymoon, like they say, its all about intentions, but i can see why mgaber is kind of uneasy, i would be too, i looked at the isna club village, and was almost disgusted, some people were waiting for "hindu thugs standing outside the club for willing isna girls" thats sad as hell, ISNA may be a good event, and i can't really judge because i havnt been there in a long time, but it kind of makes me mad that people look at isna as one large muslim partying and one night stands for however many days, and it makes the people that go there to genuinly network with and learn from other muslims look bad
ISNA is what you make out of it. There are really very good lectures and there are serious meetings on the side for other organizations. At the same time there are people partying and clubbing. It is a huge market place for muslims and you choose how you want to spend ur time there.
well, i actually know of someone's "holy experience" were the guy met someone from ISNA and eventually married that person, kind of crazy, but for real, if you aren't there to hook up, then what are you there for? i was there when i was kid, like in 4th grade, and they had us doing all these stupid little games, and i swear, they had a game, and the prize my brother won, he won a shovel, no lie lol, and on top of that, i lost my cool jean jacket while i was there, i was so sad, i remember crying to my mom, while my mom and dad wer like 'faleh ya khuya, ty dya3ley eljacketa elgedida?" lol
Ok so ya'll know I am new to Chicago and all (if not read my profile), so this ISNA conference will be a first for me. I have been excited about this conference, a chance to be in a large gathering of muslims who are there to learn and to grow, especially coming from Dallas. But I have been feeling a tad uneasy about it over the past couple of days, especially after reading some of the things on this Site (search for Club ISNA on the villages), and hearing stories from friends here in town.....One especially troubling post, was the 4 Day Party guide to ISNA, hosted at sound bar, amongst other. Izzy, I think you may turn out to be right with this one......Very Sad
