Anyone do the South Beach Diet?

I was wondering if anyone here has done or is considering doing South Beach? Its like Atkins but without the unlimited fats and limited veggies.

Okay, someone really needs to start a South Beach diet. Thanks, I will defn eat my carbs for lunch then in phase2. I never even thought about the effects of consuming carbs so late in the day.

As for exercise, I would love to be able to sneak away in the day but in reality, it's only in the evenings.

Today was day 6 of phase 1 for me and I should have shut my trap earlier about it being soo easy. I went to a friend's for dinner and she forgot and added carrots and potatoes to the meal. I was dying of hunger by the time I came home.

WOW thats the best story ever!! I am totally motivated now.

Michelle- fruit JUICE is the enemy bc its mostly unnatural sugar (high fructose corn syrup) and you can drink tons of it in under a minute. Fruit on the other hand has fructose sugar but you get so much fiber with it that it counterracts the effect of the sugar.
Yup Ive been reading my South Beach book cover to cover!

Today is Day one of Phase 2 and I can't wait to eat some fruit with lunch...

ok so this is motivation from the official SB website ezines:

Carol W., Hollywood, Florida

I tried every low-fat diet out there, but nothing seemed to work. Not only was I overweight, but my cholesterol was high. I didn't like the way I looked or felt, and I wanted to get my health back. Then I came upon a pamphlet advertising the South Beach Diet?. I liked what I read immediately. It talked about modifying carbohydrates, not eliminating them, and emphasized the right carbs and the right fats.

I started on Phase 1, and the first week was tough. I was used to eating a lot of the wrong carbohydrates, such as low-fat cookies, crackers, and sugary cereals ? my system was craving them. But my cravings disappeared, and by the end of the second week I had lost 9 pounds! I couldn't believe it, especially since I was eating as much, if not more, food than I had before. I had more energy, and my clothes felt looser around my waist. I moved on to Phase 2, which felt like a big change. All the weight I just lost is going to come right back, I worried. But, instead, my weight loss continued!

I was amazed I could eat foods that I had avoided for years, such as mayonnaise, nuts, and red meat ? and still lose weight. And did I ever! I lost a total of 27 pounds in three months! But the best part was going to have my cholesterol levels checked. The ratio of total cholesterol to good cholesterol was the best it could be! I was so happy, and it was all because of The South Beach Diet?.

This is something I plan to do for the rest of my life!

Baltinena-
That makes so much sense about working out during the day. There is a gym nearby with babysitting but I keep making excuses not to join bc I can just go to the workout room at our community center at night. NEVER HAPPENS. So now I have an extra excuse as to why I must work out during the day. Of course Im sure my kids will freak out...LOL

I dont think I will eat rice on Phase 2. Just whole wheat pita and not too much and only if I feel like it, otherwise I'll stick to fruits with lunch.

Tomorrow is my last day of Phase 1 !!! Yay!

Sounds like a great idea--about the village for the southbeach. I totally need the motivational. In general whether in phase 1 or 3 you should not be eating pastas and rice at night and if you do have it early and go for walk and have wheat pasta or brown rice-(about a fistful) this is a must. no refined stuff!

So its okay to have your carbs with dinner if you do some sort of exercise before bed? Or is it still better not the have them that late in Phase 2?

I know Phase 2 is still about losing weight and Phase 3 is more about maintaining so I guess it makes sense. I was thinking eat dinner and go do my exercise video or walk on a treadmill (dont have one at home though) for about 20 mintues. Yeah Phase 2 sounds tough bc you feel like you should be mega-rewarded for the pain of Phase 1!

Im going to exercise on Phase 2 though...did nothing on Phase 1. I think a few more pounds and then to Phase 3.

Someone here should make a village for us. We cant be the only people on South Beach!

I agree don't have rice and carbs at night unless you have them before 7 and can go for a walk or something to burn some of them off. If you want to eat carbs eat them in the afternoon especially since your body has warmed up on breakfast.

You guys are really scaring me about phase2. I'm only on day5 of Phase 1 but so far it's been pretty easy. I thought I might be doing it wrong but I did weigh-in this morning and was down 3 lbs (and that's with AF here)

My plan for phase 2 is to just have the rice/pasta etc at dinner. I'm comfortable with my breakfast and lunch choices. Plus, I hate dessert with a passion so I'm hoping that helps me out in the long run.

Look at the template I sent you-and please go to the forum as it answers these and many more questions for phase 2. You should reintroduce food but not first thing in the morning. have bran related products first thing or legumes. They line your stomach and you digest slower hence less hungry--

Snakessss and Salimac-
I actually have been doing Phase 1! I posted to see if anyone esle is doing it bc the support and recipe ides really help. I will be on Phase 2 as of Tuesday. I think Phase two sounds trickeir but obviously Phase One is harder.
That fake-rasmalay dessert sounds yummmy. I have to try it out.

I did find that after a few days I was craving desi food (had had every type of meat and veggie combo american style). The only things that made me feel happy and full when the desi cravings hit was keema eaten with a ton of iceburg lettuce (aka my psuedo-roti).

Anyway I can't wait for Phase 2. I hear its best to reintroduce fruit first?
