Anyone going to that TCF Fundraiser in Newark?
It's linked on the events section on the front page of naseeb
C'mon A_T, all those friends for $50 total? It was per person. And I had planned on 10! That's why they had that table for us.
And PPMD, it was not so much the 'fine dining' that we went for. I took gora musicians to party with Pakistani's. And they saw a party which - I admit - I was a part of making rock. But it was a blast, and it was for a good cause, and the food wasn't anything to complain about.. Besides, If I exclude Chandni from my social forays, (which I guess I happen to since I've never been there,) it still doesn't stop me from going there for a good cause, to listen to some rockin music, and to rock the joint and enable everyone to scream their hearts out.. Someone's gotta show Pakistani's how a true heart rocks out when the party needs some pizzaz - or when someone of the stature of Baba comes on stage to rock the house! I went to BurningMan this year and fell in love with Fire Spinning. Now I can't spin fire inside a space not prepared for spinning, but I took off my turban and started spinning it as my flag (one to each hand) which totally rocked! It was the first time, and I guess that's now my signature move.. Flag Spinning!!
Yet the singer didn't sing Allan Faqir's song "Allah Huu!!"
It was the benefit concert for Kashmiri Victims Fund, and I took 8 Americans for the $50 table, including two Pakistani's (myself included..) Not only was it a great introduction to Pakistan and Pakistani culture for these Americans, it was an opportunity to congregate with sufi's and knowers of Allah and wave my flag about. Ended up dancing my heart out, as the flag didn't want to get rolled up.. It didn't accept it, and now my flag is not green anymore.. Nope.. It picked up some white, at Chandni (Pakistani Restaurant that ROX!) and now it is looking like two squares, the green part 8 times bigger than the white part, which is tied to one end of the green turban / flag.. That was an amazing lesson.
The link on the open website was to a different building- so I ended up somewhere else. Eventually, I made it to the hall around 8:30 or so and it was packed. I paid $200 but had a bad seat- oh well. The fundraising was good except for some guy who was screaming into the mic and turned a number of people off. I'm not into the calvinistic style of fundraising.
Yes, do come, 100 is very reasonable. You would pay that for dinner alone somewhere.
Imran talked mostly about cricket, which I am not particuarly fond of, but the general message was good. If you don' t know any of his cricket history or what striking the pins, yadayada means, some of it is lost on you...
$100 is the less expensive tix? That's nice to know. I meant to say that I'm taking friends and am paying for some of them at the 24th event. The tix per seat on my table are $50, which is all going to the cause. So not sure I'll be able to make this event. Quite unlikely, by the looks of it at the moment.
Never heard Imran Khan in person either. Is he really as charismatic as he used to be when managing the team?
I'm already shelling out $200 for the Nov 24th show.. And I have a table of all white friends that's 7 ppl strong already ($50 per seat.) Three friends still sought for the 3 remaining seats.
God I thought somebody would have said this already...
No Imran Khan, no show. There's a qawalli instead.
But there _is_ an alternate fundraiser taking place (yes, _at_ Chandni) on the 24th. I'm getting a table there ($50 per seat) and already have 7 peeps. Four of them white guys..
It'll be a blast. I know the music band.. All for a worthy cause. $50 buys a VIP seat. $1000 buys a VVIP table for 10.
It is officially off. TCF updated their website this evening: tcfusa.org
However, even if people can't attend, OPEN needs help with advertising their 11/18/2005 event around the Bay Area: opensiliconvalley.com [email protected]

Anyone there from this village?
Proud to be doing it too. Hope anyone else from this village shows up, and introduces themself to me. I'll be in a green turban. :-)
