Anyone read Angels and Demons?

I highly recommend it if you haven't. It is better than The Vinci Code with its many twists and turns and ofcourse the usual Dan Brown's secret society and breaking ancient codes. The setting is in Vatican city, I'm now more inspired to visit Italy after reading this book.

I read AandD in two nights. It was a bit slow during the first few chapters. It is certainly a plot driven book. Granted the end is a bit predictable, but the whole idea behind the storyline was very interesting. I'm a bit hesistant when it comes to good books being turned into movies, they never seem to do justice to the text, but I always manage to find myself in line to being watching them.

I took A & D on holiday, and have to say i found it quite good, I am not reading DV Code, as mentioned earlier the book always is better than the film. I think you just have to be into the way DB writes to enjoy his style

I cannot find my self reading more than one piece of text by the same Author.

It becomes Monotonous.

Nevertheless The D'vinci code was a good page turner.
Although I felt a pang of guilt whilst enjoying this superficial concepton.

I actually preferred Angels and Demons to Da Vincci Code.

I just finished Angels and Demons last night, and I have to echo Sipa's thoughts in some respects, but nevertheless, I did enjoy the book, and plan on starting the Da Vinci Code soon, if I ever get through my textbooks before Jan - du'as needed everyone!

It's because Islam doesn't enjoy the same belief that 'not marrying' is something holy.

so perhaps it's very possible that Jesus was married, and Church has made him out to be not married. who knows. need to investigate more on this.

i'm with sipa... i was surprised at the lack of sophistication in Angels and Demons, especially since i did enjoy the Da Vinci Code... i also noticed he follows the same formula for the plot in both books... the guy you trust turns out to be the bad guy, and the guy u thought was the bad guy ends up helping u out in the end...

his character development in A& D was very 2-D, though the plot was much more complicated... i think that may explain the disparity...

(oh, and an interesting fact, nowhere is it written in any islamic literature that jesus never married)

I started reading A& D yesterday, and after 60 or so pages, I gave up because the book is so badly written. Certainly the ideas are interesting but it seems to be written for a 13 year old audience. literature this is not, The Kite Runner, My name is Red, even Madras without tears and the latest Harry Potter book were written so much better. This guy must be getting paid by the word because entire paragraphs seem to be completely superflous and his overuse of exagerations (incredulous, incredible, staggering) become tedious (to me) by the first 20 pages. If this was a movie and not a book it would probably go straight to Video (or DVD).

Of course none of these ideas are really original. If someone wants to read an exceptional (imho) book about similar themes, I would recommend 'Foucault's Pendulum' by Umberto Ecco (came out in 1990 or so). Exceptionally well written, but this is not an airplane novel that you can read at one sitting and which demands nothing from the reader. A wonderful experience reading this over a cold New York winter.

I read Da Vinci Code before all the hype about it and loved it. Angels & Demon I enjoyed as well but not quite as much. It seemed to follow the same pattern so it didn't feel fresh and exciting. But still really good.

I liked Digital Fortress. Deception Point...meh, not so much.

and yeah I'm really looking forward to the movie. I just hope its done well and not too too much is cut out.

i don't read books if i come to know of them and have already seen the movie by then. but i can do otherway. lord of the rings was a classic example. and now anxiously awaiting DaVinci. though i still don't know if brilliant tom hanks can pull langdon. i wish harrison was a little younger and available for it.

I read A& D first and loved it ....but when I read Da Vinci....I seamed too shallow....maybe I was expecting too much.
I can never read a book and then a watch a movie on it(unless its a classic) it spoils the whole experience.

i read DaVinci when it was newly out. really loved it. but AnD (i can be lazier Bilal:P) i read last year though it was pretty good.

as for hollywood endings, well that's how we have the movie DaVinci coming out. you gotta please the readers but also attract the producers (that's where the big bucks are).

all his books have dramatic ends...ingredients that are targetted towards movie producers.

DaVinci was built up so much.. that some people were disappointed.. also depends on which one did you read first.. DaVinci or A& D's.. i read A& D to my flight to Pakistan.. didn't sleep at all.. i just read the book.. and over all good book.. but end was little too much hollywood for me.. i started to figure out where it was leading and somehow kinda predicted the end.. still a good, easy, and fast read..

I thought it was better than the Da vinci code .
I felt Da Vinci code was a bit of a let down.

i thought it was on par with da vinci code too. apart from going a bit bonkers at the end. didnt think deception point was all that good to be honest.

heard good things about digital fortress but he does write in a pretty formulaic way so am giving myself a break before i read it
