Apostasy in Islam

I am not the right person (with enough knowledge) about this topic, but from the research that i have done it seems like Islam forbids anyone from leaving it. In case some does decide to do so the only punishment is death.
Conclusively it seems like a one way road to me, if you want to join the gang i.e. Islam we (the religion) welcome you, but if its the other way around, you gotta die hmm!

something to think about, or something to ijtehad about :)

There is no direct verse for any punishments for leaving Islam in the Quran.

As for Hadith, I am sure if you search you can find one somewhere, as those are so tainted. You can find hadiths for just about anything and on both sides of most issues as well.
