Appeal speeding ticket?

Last night on Rt-16 in Wellesley, I got a ticket for 47 in a 30 MPH zone. The officer did not use radar, but instead marked on the ticket "estimated". I was given the ticket of $170. Any thoughts on whether on not I should appeal this? It isn't the $170 I'm worried about, but rather the insurance.
My last ticket was in 1995 in Atlanta, GA, so my driving record is clean. What are my chances?

Thanks for any input

YEAH, 350 BUCKS FOR ALLEGEDLY GOING 88 IN A 65 BUT I DON'T THINK I WAS ACTUALLY GOING THAT FAST. I HEARD THEY TEND TO PULL WOMAN OVER MORE FOR SOME REASON.

I HAVE A PERFECTLY CLEAN RECORD SO IM HOPING THEY'LL AT LEAST LOWER THE FINE.

I HAVE ALSO GOTTEN THE CRAZIEST PARKING TICKETS THIS MONTH. ONE FOR PARKING ON A WEDNESDAY MORNING FOR STREET CLEANING. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE WORLD.

You can reappeal, I just didn't have the time to take off for a dumb ticket. I also lucked out because I still have my CT license and the tix were from MA which never showed up on my insurance.

Fazil, I have been swamped...work, teaching, and some travels keeping me too busy...on top of all my friends having babys...cute to hear my white folk friends telling their kids to call me Khala.

APPEAL!
IF IT MAKES YOU FEEL BETTER, IM IN THE PROCESS OF APPEALING A $350 SPEEDING TICKET I GOT ON 95 IN THE GRANITE STATE--THEY ARE RUTHLESS! I WAS TOLD UNLESS THEY USE RADAR, THEY DON'T HAVE PROOF OF YOUR SPEED.

MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU.

i didnt ask city v state because of the rate that they show up. neither generally show up because their details pay and court time/hearings dont. i asked because i have 'friends on the inside' (two family members). but yeah, sometimes they do show up at which point the judge/magistrate generally defers to the polices judgment.. but! you never know.

good luck!

Appeal! I had to do that twice but was caught with the radar bith times and didn't get out of it! If you definitely know there was no radar, you should be all good. The officer that caught won't show up, a representative will. Good luck! Read up on radar guns, because they can catch you you from yards away! That's why I got screwed!

Thanks JZ. Officer mentioned that he used laser and pointed to my jeep from 232 ft, however on the ticket he ticked "estimated". I think he was trying to say this is not disputable.
