Arabs and self-esteem

I always wondered why is it that many Arabs have low self-esteem? espicially ones who migrate to western countries, it's kinda like the thing with some african american brothers, how some of them look down on their homeland back in Africa. I also find it very distrubing when Arabs who live in western cultures descriminate against their own people backhome, if you grew up in this country, why in the world you would think u are superior to a person who grew up hearing the call of Allahu Akbar five times a day in a Muslim country backhome? again I see those low self esteem cases day by day, coming from African cultures and Arab ones too, I see bosnians speaking bosnian,Albanians speaking Albanian here in america, the French speaking French,I rarely see Arab americans speaking Arabic with one another, or Africans speaking swaheeli or Euroba or Ebbo..it is like as if it is a faux pas for others to know your orgins..lol lemaza tatanakaroona le aslokom ya bani ya3rob? :)

with the girls, i see more ppl that are proud of who and what they are, with the guys, they seem to hide it more...i heard its cause they dont want ppl to know they are arab/muslim cause they think they are terrorists and they will go all racial on them or something...

I have not found that to be with the case with the issue of language. And one thing I have always noticed about Arabs here is that when someone asks them where they are from, they always say Iraqi or Lebanon or Syria etc and they are proud of it. Ask an Asian however, and they always say: "Oh I'm British". Only upon further probing do they finally say "Oh my parents are Indian/Pakistani".

I think we just need to be more open minded and accepting to everyone.

I don't think its an issue of having low self esteem, or one feeling superior to another. I think it has to do with the huge culture barrier. I mean, I'll make a example of myself. When I was younger, I tried having friends with arabs that just came from overseas, but had much dificulty because of the language (I didn't start speaking arabic until the age of 12..always understood it, but never replied..long story) and the culture barrier. I was young, and things were difficult, but as I grew, and started to appriate the diveristy around me, I started to realize each person I met from back home could teach me something valuable that I couldn't get from my professors.
