Are Pushtuns Viewed Unfairly?

After the fight on Indiangal's "Afghan's are Insane" JE, I decided to explore Pashtun culture more closely. There are alot of stereotypes floating around and claims that these are unfounded. To be fair, let's look into the matter of Pashtuns, Pathans, Afghans, and Pakhtuns/Pakhtans closely. I will be using Pashtuns from now on though I'm aware not all Afghans are Pashtuns and not all Pashtuns are Afghans. The main issue is Pashtuns since this group is the one most stereotyped. How true are the stereotypes and how well have the Pashtuns on this site managed to convince us otherwise with their behavior?
Looking at the South Asians we have a break down of Punjabis, Pathans, Pashtuns, Sindhis, Balochis, Kashmiris, Hydros, Bengalis, Gujaratis, Mughals (people claiming descent), Persians, and people who don't fit in any of these categories but are Indian or Pakistanis.
Why do people pick on Pashtuns? Is it because they are so clanish or does the fact that everone picks on them make them even more clannish and proud?
Common stereotypes of Pashtuns:
1. Pashtuns have no manners. They swear alot and have no tact. They are uncivilized because they were recently tribal people and have only just learned how to live in cities.
2. Pashtuns are huge. They are also thick.
3. Pashtuns are very fair (coloring) and have light hair. (Not true.)
4. Pashtuns have bad bad tempers, are fierce, and don't listen to reason.
5. Pashtuns are clannish, only marry other Pashtuns, and are racists. They hate darkness.
6. Pashtun women are not delicate and look like men. When compared to their Indian and Pakistani counterparts, they outweigh them and have hard rugged features.
7. Indians and Pakistanis from cities discourage their children from marrying them because they have bad manners and are like bulls in a china shop.
8. Pashtuns and Punjabis do not get along because Punjabis are from cities and villages, and Pashtuns are tribal and inbred.
9. Pashtuns are very narrowminded because of the clan mentality. They have no accomplishments in life so they have to point to their clan loyalty to try and prove their superiority.
10. Pashtuns are easily provoked. They don't know how to resist acting impulsively and they don't know the meaning of the words "Live and let live."
11. Pashtuns are violent people and don't know how to resolve disagreements civily.

I don't agree with most of these. But it is interesting to see the stereotypes and compare them with the behavior of some people on this website.
I've heard alot of things about Punjabis, Bengalis, and Indians too. None of those stereotypes come close to the things out there on Pashtuns, and of all kinds of friends I have, Pashtuns do live up to their reputation for being narrowminded.
Punjabis are the most progressive and open. Indians are the more cultured and educated. All stereotypes.

I totally disagree because NWFP has the highest rate of female Judges all over the World man not only in Pakistan .. who said Pashtuns are not progressive .. Yes we are proud clan thats something which can never change abt Pashtuns ..and about violence thats everywhere ..talking about accomplishments i guess u dont watch cricket at all or read history ,,,, I think before saying or writting something one shud always always get their facts right..About physical features then we have two sets of Pashtuns one that live in plain areas and the one from Northern or hilly area ... the one from plain area u can come across a pathan who looks more like a punjabi but if u meet a pathan from Norther area who are true pathans not migrated from anywhere will have fair complexion light eyes light hair and tall ... huge built i disagree .

I am a proud...yeah ya heard me...PROUD Punjabi chick with Persian heritage and I'll tell ya this much Taurusi, #8 is totally and completely untrue and I can personally vouch for that. I have close family members "inbred" (as you put it) and married to Pathans, and mash'allah the marriages are extremely successful.
As for the rest of the jazz written above, know one thing and know it well...stereotypes exist for ALL ethnicities. There are TONS for Indians, TONS for Bengalis, TONS for Kashmiris, and TONS for ever other ethnicity out there. The trick is to GET PAST THE STEREOTYPES AND LEARN TO ALL GET ALONG AS MUSLIMS!!!

the whole purpose is to either dismantle or confirm them as they seem to be so widespread.
