Are the 98 heroes back ?!?

It has been confirmed, after Zidane, Makelele it is now Thuram who confirms he will be playing for the national side in order to make it to the world cup. No one would deny the tremendous experience and quality those players have (besides of their credentials), the question now is how will they fit to the team and can they make French football shine again ?

Trycity, I totally agree with you and first felt ashamed to hear the plea of the coach who made several trips to madrid to convince Zizou (I suspect Makelele and Thuram joined because of Zidane but might have not be asked back had he not been there). The future of French football lies in the generations ahead of the one in place, it's all the kids who grew up on the 98 vintage squad and that are now in training camp that would make French football shine again. I'm of the Zidane's generation and our heroes were the Platini, Tigana and Giresse who won the 84 Euro. The next to come were the 98 heroes... maybe it works like wine, you need to allow time for a great vineyard to come to maturity

Amora I can only say Insha'Allah but it is a tough challenge they have ahead of them. In any case, it'll still be a pleasure to see Zidane use his magic on the pitch

Although it is always good to have the likes of Zidane and Thuram in a team, it does make one ponder what exactly is the future for the French national side.

Currently France is lying 4th in group four, the players who have been playing since Euro 2004 should be asking themselves how did we end up in this position?

Mehdi, valid point? Team spirit is important but I think Zidane and depending on the team should be smart enough to realize their common goal, InshaAllah

Amora i so would love to believe he could and trust me (like 90% of France) i'm a huge fan and see him as arguably being part of the top 4 best player of the century. However, he is not getting any younger though his wimm to win is intact and he still have to fit in a team which doesn't exist as such yet (great individuals but very little team spirit)

OH yeah, a person who can score 26 goals in his career and decides to come back to play as the leader of the French team HAS something to offer! Way to go Zidane, I hope he repeats the World Cup 98!!! :D
