arranged marriage and non-muslim family
Here's a question since there are no journals in here right now.
I find that most Muslims expect to marry someone with little interaction with that person beforehand. But, my non-Muslim family would be appalled if I brought home a guy and said we're getting married even though we've only met a few times. I don't know how to deal with that with my family.
Anyone else have experience or similar concern?

there is halaal interaction and haraam interaction the way i understand...interaction between people of the opposite gender does not have to be so rigid, or shunned...I think its out-of-hours, free socialising with the opposite gender or that which is conducted in secret that is a cause of concern and the reason why many muslims attempt to take on an extreme stance (to avoid falling into sin.)
I do not see a problem with getting to know a person with your mahrem close by, or with you in a public arena...aslong as you are not in seclusion...where potentially most exploitation takes place.
Be Wise, Stick to whats clear and disregard unjustified thoughts others may hold. Polish the niyyah and refrain from temptation inshallah. Hope this helps.
