Hey, say sorry to your b*stard buds, docali, Im sure they dont deserve to be categorized with Yazeed in anyway.

Would 'Morbidly Seething Incestuous Villanous Tyrant' do? Hey Im sure theres no incestuous people in friends circle, and if there are, I bet they arent the morbidly villanous type (unless ur friends with Saddam). ;)

oh ok i was under the assumption you were trying to close the debate. so long as you assert the truthfullness of your beliefs while negating that of others you're opening urself up to more debate. But since your not trying to be PC or end the discussion then 'on with the show'... :)

if both are within the framework of islam, then its all good. both are muslim and thats all that matters

I'm not trying to be PC, i'm trying to be realistic. I cant agree to the validity of sunni interpretation regarding the battle of jamal and the passing of leadership from the prophet. Accepting both sides simply doesnt work. You pick one or the other. BUT, the point is that regarding my relationships with sunnis, this doesnt matter. I dont need approval from sunnis to work with and have respect for sunnis. And the same thing should apply for sunnis. I need approval from Allah. The fact that i think both sides are muslim and i treat them as such should be all the PC anyone needs.

When i say fundamental concpetions of our deen is different obviously i'm speaking about both groups within the framework of islam. So my comments were obviously not directed at a level that basic.

my bad...the sarcasm was a little too subtle. Those things are not affected by concept of leadership cause they are inherent and clear in the quran, thats my point.

If you wanna be truley PC about it you havta assert that both are legit and not assert the truthfullness of one while negating the other...

How do our conceptions of leadership effect our conceptions of tawheed?

I believe i am right as much as you believe you are right. Isnt that the problem? The solution is to believe and admit that the other side is muslim. Yeah, its true, i do think i am right, but thats for Allah to judge, not for you. And the same applies for what you think is right. I think that's as fair as it can get

And that so clearly affects our perception of tawheed, importance of salaat, zakat, sawm, hajj, the necessity for brotherhood, justice, iman, and more justice. Your all inclusive view of leadership is fundamentally different than ours, yes. But its up to us to understand and tolerate each other and highlight everything that is similar. Dwelling on history is a waste of time. Its our actions now that matter.

Don't be condesceding, we gave you islamic history. Accounts of events that can be found in sunni books as well. As you said, we interpret them differently. We explained them cause people wanted to know about Ashura.

As for the hafiz...there is an army of 6 year old huffaz in Iran reciting precisely 114 chapters, no more no less. This is the ignorance and animosity existing against shias today...maybe its cause we're a minority. );

BTW i'm all for supporting the 'live and let live' attitude but calypsos's responses are structured as such: 'We shias are right. But since sunnis don't want to accept the truth we shias should move beyond the differences and we should all get along"...not fair

Our fundamental conceptions of our deen is differnt. Like you said in the shia view if you accept Ali and Ahlul Bayt then you can't really accept the leadership on anyone else. On the other hand sunnis don't see the acceptance of Ali/Ahlul Bayt while accepting other leadership of others, mainly Quraishis, as mutually exclusive concepts...

I don't think your proofs really irk anyone. Again it simply implies that the very 'proofs' you cite are interpretted totally differnt by sunnis. Even if the proponents of sunni views were ignorant of the shia argument i think the shias in this village did a good job in giving a crash course on shia history...

yea i also read of some other rumors about the shias having a Quran which had a few more chapters which were eaten by a goat or something .. *:

ok i'm sorry but i can't stop laughing at BASIT's absurd comment, and I quote

?WHY SHIA DON'T HAVE ANY HAFIZ QURAN AMING THEM........ OR WHY CAN'T THEY ??????

this comment goes up there with the one about shia's having their 'own' Quran ROFL.

And some of you talk about getting one's fact straight before making an argument....truly hilarious.

If you take it by itself then yeah i agree. But considering all the other points that have been made and the proof that has been shown...i think it sums up the bottomline in a way thats maybe irking to some. BTW...this is why i think we should change our discussions towards a more productive topic. But, by following Ali and the ahlulbayt you become complicit in denying religious authority to anyone other than them. Because according to Shia understanding, the ahlulbayt are the imams and our leaders. So, yes, in one sense i choose to follow Ali and not Usman. And if you choose to justify the actions of Abu Sufyan, Muawiya and Yazid...then you have denied the authority and respect that Ali and the prophet's family deserve. Like umer said, its true that we interpret Islamic history differently than sunnis. And its very irresponsible for you to accuse us of not understanding the other side when noone here in support of sunni has shown understanding of shia interpretation. We have had the same quran and ahadith since the beginning, and people have chosen to interpret them differently. That will not change and sunni and shia will continue to interpret the religious sources differently. The point here should not be to concentrate on the differences, because neither group should be trying to convert or negate the other. Why not concentrate on EVERYTHING ELSE that is the same. The quran, tawheed, morality, prayer, fasting, akhlaq, brotherhood etc... We should work on accepting each other as muslims. All this may sound like idealistic dribble to some of you here, but I believe it.
