asian shops in glasgow??

salaam everyone..

was just wondering if anyone can recommend any good asian shops in glasgow for clothes and general 'stuff'? i've been spoiled by living in bradford until recently!

i know there are the fabric shops down gt western rd, but not much use when you don't know one end of a sewing machine from the other! and there's krk on woodlands rd, but if i'm missing out on a bunch of good glasgow shops, plz let me know!

thx and salaamz, lyn

Salaam Sukaina...welcome to the Scottish village....I know us Scots are just irresistable ;) - When we talk that is!!!

I shouldn't say this (but its true!).. Glasgow is ALOT better than any other city in Scotland for Desi shopping and for Desi khanna!

The Desi places I suggested AGES ago don't serve alcohol at all! (Not to my knowledge! Only place I know that allows you to bring your own alcohol is the Halal Chinese, but its a very rare occurance!)

Places like Dayraa, Kebabish (make sure you go to the one in Victoria Road, not Gibson Street!) Village curry house, Clay Oven, Karahi Palace have separate areas for family and if you don't want to sit in a mixed area, will provide alternative seating with purdha! Not sure about seating in Yaadgar though, but its one of my favourites!!

If you need to know more, just email me and will do my best to guide you to a decent place for some Desi Khanna!!!

okie b4 any1 shoots okie im english :P but a gr8 lover of all things scottish (NOTE i said things! hehe). Well i came up to Edin for my friends bday in June and abso adored the place but what let us down was the food, there really wasnt any decent desi rest. Now we're coming up to Glasgow this time for my bday (is in July but we coming in Sept *: ) and i really wanna make sure we dont make the same mistake. The list tht u gave St75 is gr8 but im pretty strict as in i dont eat at places where alcohol is served so id really appreciate it if u could just lemme if any of the rest's uve mentioned r licenced? Thanx mate ;)

think sheenas mentioned some of da best ones. Sheena Why don't u write another journal stating ALL asian shops in Glasgae?

Lyn - For clothes also check Al-Janaat, Okara Fashions, Thaka (n8 sure of the spelling but its on Maxwell Road!), Nayaab & Singhaar; altho best 4 jewellery, as mentioned, its g8 nice clothes downstairs! Favourite kebab joint is Yaady's & 4 authentic pak food. Dayra's good 2! But desi's avoid Ashokas...for non desi's only!

Salaam Lyn, There are plenty of shops...but i'm afraid, you are going to have to venture to the south side of glasgow! Your best bet is to head to Pollokshields (Albert Drive & Maxwell Road) and Govanhill (Cathcart Rd & Allison Street) for a good variety of Clothes, Jewellery, food, music, films and Islamic literature etc. If you are looking for loose material head to Shanazia's in Albert Drive or at their sister branch in Cathcart Road. There's a new shop called East meets West on Albert Drive and its pretty good and very reasonable(plenty other shops like Variety silks/Libaas etc there as well!)...For Artificial/Silver jewellery, Singhaar is the place to go (St Albert Drive!)....For gold jewellery head to Ramzaan jewellers on Albert Drive...Best asian sweets & hot dogs head to Glasgow Sweet House on Cathcart Rd!(there is a difference between Glasgow Sweet House and Glasgow Sweet Centre!)For decent desi halal food, theres quite alot on offer! Dayra on Albert Drive is good;Yadgaar in Calder street;Mama's pizza place; Lahore kebab House....Chicken Hut (Allison Street) etc....or you could head to Commerce St where there is Village Curry House, Karahi Palace & Clay oven! Theres loads more i'm sure others could recommend!! hope this helps!xxx
