When I used to go to Kashmir for the holidays, this pani wala would come with spring water, and my granddad would put it in a mutka...it would stay cold all day...it was the best water ever.

...oh, and in the winter, to save electricity, she'd place the milk gallons filled with water outside so they'd freeze in what she'd call "Allah Miyan ki freezer" and then put em in the garage...guess we abcd's will never learn to appreciate what we have...

heh..the milk gallons...makes me remember my childhood. living in a small town in NC we used to drive up to DC once every six months to pick up zabiha gosht from Halalco and we'd buy enough to fill up the big freezer in the garage. (my mom would run the AC on high the whole way back to NC so the gosht wouldn't get kharab...me n my sis would be huddled under blankets the whole way). anyway, as the gosht finished, my mom thought the empty freezer space was a waste, so in order to increase its efficiency, we'd save all our empty milk gallons, carefully rinse them out, and fill them with water and fill up our freezer with them as the gosht ran out. our freezer was always full,

hahaha talk about milk gallons, let me share a little experience, i went to this friend of mine and murphys law had to ask to use the laitreen.
the poop went alright now i started to look for something called a lota, this is what i saw sitting there

a milk gallon, with the lid still intact. A medium size hole poked in the cap of the gallon and a plastic tube sticking out. Fully recycleable you have to take the cap off to fill up the gallota, and then you are good to go :P

LOL....hahahaha...my mom does that too! In fact she also saves the margerine containers, and take out containers...but hey I'm not complaining, every time I go to her house she fills them with food so I don't have to cook..her only thing is that I make sure to bring it back if I want a refil! Ahhh..I miss living with my parents!

tanveer yeah, those were the days, eh? i still remember the house you grew up in, just off of US 421 and I-465. i was always fascinated by all the farm and lawn mower equipment sitting in the large garage behind the house.

yeah, so i posted this same item on my personal JE and in the girl-talk village, and i submitted a photograph of a few pieces of tupperware as well. the photo was approved for my personal JE and the girl-talk village, but not for the pind.

i don't get it... do they not have tupperware in the pind? are we supposed to use recycled sour cream containers instead?

ohh man i know what you mean. i had that problem with tupperware AND lunch brown bags. if i didn't bring them home, my mom would complain about how she has to go to the dollar store again to pick some up. i think it's a frugality issue. or they spend so much time in the kitchen, they get attached to their tupperware. "i vill name this one Billo and this one Shaan. balle balle"
