baby making
There's a tv programme on at the moment which is following the lives of a group of 30-something women, who are all single. But who want babies.
Do we think it is right that single women have children (knowingly) or do we think it is wrong?

As Plato says, why should it be only married people who can have their own kids? The kids that still need a home and love are still in orphanages and care homes regardless. From your response, it seems that you think it is somehow ok for these kids who have already gone through a lot in that they are not with their biological parents to somehow accept the 'second best' that a single woman would be.
It's true, people need to compromise all round but to say that it is ok for singles to adopt but not procreate and couples to do that smacks of marital elitism
AND HE THEN SAID: hey i can see her now!
bravo
AND AS HE WAS ON A ROLL HE CONTINUED TO SAY: addme if you want (rashid) last name.
bravo
i've talked to my friends about this a lot. desi's and non desi's, muslims and non muslims, both men and women. i fully intend to adopt if i am not married by my mid thirties. the other option - of finding a surrogate father or going through a sperm clinic - is just too taboo (both by the dictates of religion and culture (desi)) for me to even touch. and while a teeny tiny part of me will probably always wonder what it would be like to have one of my own...i think of all the kids out there who could use a parent (or two) and can't envision going any other route (unless of course i'm married, in which case I'd like to have a few and adopt as well if i am so fortunate as to be able to do both).
AND THEN SHE SAID:
and before ppl get started - i think the ideal is to have both a father and a mother, be a part of the husband-wife unit, but if i can't find a guy, i don't see any reason not to adopt if i am able to provide a good home, financially, emotionally, and physically, spiritually, which iA and god willing i will be able to do.
AND THEN SHE LATER SAID:
i cannot read mr. jazztune. hmmmmm should i purchase a premium membership?
or have them add me.
Watever you have said is ABSOLUTELY right and Iwould like to double every word u have typed here.

And anyway adoption is an option that should be considered. You don't HAVE to take it if you don't want. Just like I ain't gonna get in the way of a woman if she wants to abort her baby, I'm not gonna get in the way of someone who wants her own baby.
Single moms, probably working, will have to take time off work (maternity leave I think it's called), then have to do all the mommy stuff whilst holding up a career. So by adopting she can skip the first few years (albeit the best years), and go straight into the pre-teens without having to worry about nappies, and vomiting and sleepless nights and all that.
if these women should adopt rather htan have hteir own, then why shouldn't married women do the same?
how come we all should not stop having our own kids till every little orphan, poor, unwanted child is adopted, then we can start again?
why should only the single women be raising other people's genetic heritage?
i don't see the difference here. if one person should adopt rather than conceive, then all people should be under the same standards
There Shazia, my conclusion, single mothers can have babies, but my suggestion is that they go down the adoption route first.
And you're also a brilliant lady and a great buddy (from whatever little I see of ya), and I'll mail you later this evening since I have to go be a slave for my brother now.
So wrap up in a plastic bag and throw away your ideas of protecting babies = protecting biological lineage into a grimy river (like that woman in Brazil did to her newborn child), or put your notions of chromosomal welfare into a cardboard box and leave it out side a hospital/orphanage, cos I say so!
And being humans makes us unique... you won't see a tiger going around adopting other baby tigers (except in a cheesy Hollywood movie) but you will see fine-arsed Angelina (and other such commendable humans) do just that.
