Baby's Gettin Violent/ Declawing?

Okay, so I solved my issues of gettin a kitten, naming him, ridding him and my house of fleas. (Thanks, guys, for ur advice!)

Now, I've got another one that may not be as easy to fix. My kitty Tony Montana is not violent in nature (juxtaposition unintentional). He follows me evverywhere, needs constant human interaction, cries everytime I walk away until I sit down and take him in my lap, and constantly comes to me, kisses me and rubs his fuzzy lil head against my face. In a nutshell, he is extremely loving and friendly. Problem is, he loves to play, but he scratches me so much. I have scratches all over. My hands are a dastardly sight, and he even jumps on my face in the morning, jabbing my eye with his paw, and plays in my hair and digs his nails into my scalp. I haven't trimmed his claws yet cuz his previous owner told me their vet said to wait til he's 15 wks (this sat.) since they're still growing in. I've tried sternly telling him no, yelling, picking him up and staring him in in his shrek-puss-in-boots eyes and saying no in a scolding tone, startling him by gently flinging him over the bed (heheh), and punishing him by locking him in the lav. but he keeps coming back. arggghhh. and what makes it so hard is he'll be purring and doing it. he thinks he's playing, but his nails are razor sharp and he digs them deep into my skin, dragging them across, ripping thru my flesh. it's painful!

oh kitty gurus, what to do??

*:

Update: New question...
I have considered declawing but the fact that the entire 1st joint of the finger is removed seems inhumane and painful to say the least. None of my other cats did this to me, so I'm still entertaining the hope that I can make him stop scratching me. What are your thoughts on it???

sorry for my mia status peepz.. work. argh.
ne-way, tony montana is now a bit over 4 months old. in a month he'll be neutered, n so that'll calm him down a bit. i read thru everyone's comments n they're helpuful. yeah i'd decided a while back to not declaw him, after i realized the procedure. problem is, he is sooo violent. he scratches, but moreso he bites pretty hard, sometimes causing us to bleed. and i put him in the bathroom, turn out the lights, and let him out 15 min later as punishment. he comes out n apologizes to me (looks at me w those puss-in-boots eyes, rubs against my leg, meows, kisses me, and i forgive him - of COURSE) n then he just runs into the plants again, destroying them, breaking our vases and pots, biting like crazy. and i speak to him in a stern voice and scold him, and lift him up and remove him from his place of destruction, but nothing. if i spray him with cold water, he just stands there, drinks it up, and jumps rite back.
but then, he sleeps with me at nite, nuzzled in my neck, and kisses me awake. then he starts biting and scratching me, lil punk.
i am just praying that he grows out of this within the next 2 months.

Why don't you get a scratcher for your cat. You can just trim ur cat's nails. I myself personally feel it is very mean to take away your kitty's nails. Cause he or she uses them so much!

Yeah they go nuts when they declaw. My cat was so mad when i trimmed her nails. Its not funny... she looked at her claws as if she was saying... where were my fingers....dont even think abt declawing... just trim them.

Declawing is cruel man.
aight here's the thing i notced abt my cats.
My cats in general are very forgiving. As long as you dont beat the living out of them. They will still come to you because they depend on you for food. More so if you got them from young, you are pretty much their mums and dads.
Here;s what i did. Everytime she tried to play with my wires, i would raise my voice and carry her away repeated. Its a repeative process but eventually she gets the idea.
As for clawing, they then to do that when they like some one, especially when they are kittens... get them a ball a rubber ball not so hard.. but one thy can chew and claw at. They love that.

i'm totally against declawing, i just wouldn't be able to put my kitties thru it, i'd rather deal with them scratching me rather than me put them thru that. i guess i'm just a softie at heart. but yeah maybe it's just a phase and it will grow out of it? have u asked the vet if this is a common occurence? and lol @ i think u either got really lucky or u should be workin for hollywood.

Declawing, no way. Too painful. You can't train your cat to stop scratching. It's a kitten. He wants to play. He will stop when he is a lil older OR you could get another kitten to give him company. Then he won't play with you as much. Growing up, I had scratches all over my face. So I feel your pain. I didn't mind though. haha

I agree with skirtman.

well, I had both of my cats partially declawed meaning, they still have nails on the back paws and the front claws are taking out. So if they do go outside they still something to defend themselves. The paws looks the same once the sutures are gone and the paws are healed so you don't even think until they tried to scratch and you won't get hurt. They don't really realize that they don't have nails, yes they may feel pain when they get the surgery but the vet will give you pain medication for them so they don't even feel it. It is up to you and how you feel afterwards. It is not a cruel action, as long as you love like you do afterward it will be fine

that was my next question, nazneen. ive considered declawing, but i didnt realize til the vet told me recently that they're not removing the nail bed as i previously thought. rather, they remove the entire 1st joint of the finger. is that not cruel? they'll mutilate poor kitty for my benefit. i feel like tony's pushing me to do it, but I want to rule everything else out first. what are everyone's thoughts on declawing??

lukmanh: im kinda confused as to how tony will equate his cagedom to not scratching me. givin him a time out in the bathroom has yet to work. he'll cry after 20 min, n then come out n do the exact same thing.
i think u either got really lucky or u should be workin for hollywood.

hmm. i dont think a scratch post will help, skirty. he uses the rugs and furniture (i know) for that. so i do need to get him one for that purpose. but he seems to be scratching me to play with me.

Well, my kitty when he was younger but I just partially declawed him (not me but the vet) so I don't think you could train them to stop scratch, it is in their nature to do it. sorry. by the time i got him to the vet i had my chin scratched, i have a few scars because of him. But i still love him

get a cage to train the fella.
After a while he will get use to it.. then u wont have to cage it. Initial stage training requires discipline... its like my cat...she peed on my mum;s sofa....man...
got her restricted... now she is ok.. and she still likes me etc...
