Bagels & Pizza - calories?

ok, so i have a love-hate relationship with bagels and pizza - what can i say, it's the new yawwwkah in me! ay o fuggeddaboutit!

ive read mixed reviews on pizza (plain cheese). some claim it's healthy because a slice is not laden with calories and it also has a nice family of nutrients, ie protein, fats, carbs. and then others claim it's the anti-christ and should be avoided like the plague.

and then there's the bagel - what's breakfast w/o a bagel? but i have to admit, i noticed a considerable decrease in weight when i put a (temporary) halt to the bagels. when i do eat the bagel, i like to justify it by knowing im gonna workout later.

so my questions:

to pizza or not to pizza?

'low carb' pizza - any good in terms of weight reduction?

to bagel or not to bagel? 'low carb' bagel - any good in terms of weight reduction?

how many calories do you think each has? ive googled galore and got very mixed numbers.

inthamix - i agree with you. i realize what works best for me is just minimizing portions, but not depriving myself of anything. so intead of a whole bagel, i'll have 1/2, etc.

good point aragorn....if youre going to pizza, do it in moderation, and make it thin crust...also, there are low carb bagels, which are closer to about 25 grams of carbs per serving, and cream cheese will be the death of you!

Use the bagels for frisbees, cup holders, or whatever else, but don't eat them. You will never be able to utilize the 80 some odd grams of complex carbs and it is definitely going to be stored as fat unless you have Paris Hilton's thyroid gland. Pizza is okay MAYBE once a month if you get a thin crust without any burger. You should never eat burger on pizza anyways since nearly 100% of the time it mixes with the sausage and you can't tell the difference. Pizza Hut has something called "Fit N' Delicious" which is grilled chicken chunks on a thin crust pizza without much cheese. Its not bad, but of course doesn't compare to the gut busting "Dippin' Strips". In general do NOT eat pizza, but if you need to once in a while to stave off the undying craving then keep it as a treat once a month. Invite some friends over and watch a movie and eat the pizza so that you psychologically know that it is NOT an everyday food. Remember just like everything else in life, repression and denial are NEVER the solution. You need to channel desires (of all kinds) in a way that deflects the adverse effects rather than pretending that you are able to completely resist them. Actually, this is how Allaah deals with human desire. The desires are not denied in Islam but channeled. Lust is channeled with encouraged sexuality in the bounds of Marriage. Gluttony is channeled with Islamic dietary laws. Greed is channeled with Interest free and fair dealing business...etc..etc. Good philosophy to adhere to and you should definitely apply it to your diet mind-set.
