An old man lived on a farm in the mountains of eastern Kentucky with
his
>young grandson. Each morning Grandpa was up early sitting at the
>kitchen table reading his Quran.

I RECENTLY HAVE STARTED TO READ THE SURAT YASIN EVERY DAY AND AIYTUL KURSI, I NOTICED THAT MY ARABIC WAS BEGINNING TO LACK AND I HAD BECOME RUSTY AND SLOW,,, WHICH IS DISAPPOINTING.
NOW I MAKE SURE BEFORE I GO TO BED THAT I READ THE SURAT AND HAVE NEARLY MEMORIZED IT!!
THE SURAT YASIN IS KNOWN AS THE HEART OF THE QURAN AND SHOULD ALWAYS BE READ.
AIYTUL KURSI IS SHORT AND CAN BE READ IN A FEW MINUTES BUT ITS SO POWERFUL THAT EVEN IF SOMEONE DOES BLACK MAGIC TO YOU, THE AIYTUL KURSI WILL PROTECT YOU!!!
The first step is to read the Qur'an.. if we, like the boy, decide not to read because we don't understand, then we have discarded one of the greatest blessings Allah has given us.
But we should not think it is simply enough to read the Qur'an.. we should strive to understand it AND to act upon it. The Qur'an is not just for entertainment, or for decoration... it is a guidance, and we should use it.
How would you like it if you sent your friend your favorite delicious cookie recipe, and he told you, "well I read it, but I didn't understand some of it, but the parts I did understand were nice. Maybe I'll read it again sometime."
You would feel like, why did I bother giving you a recipe if you aren't going to make those yummy cookies??
So when we read the Qur'an, we should study it, and ponder it, and seek to understand it, and then apply it to our lives. Even if it is only one ayat at a time.
