Pinkmemonade: Well as you see, my arabic is super flawed. I know a few phrases that my baba taught me or that I remember from an arabic class in college (proof that an 'A' is a meaningless grade sometimes, lol). Glad that this stimulated more interest in sharing what we know though. I'd hate to see this JE fade into the background :)

Thanks Salam, that's exactly why I'm here. Half of what I think I know is probably slightly off. In real life people bear with me and don't correct it. I'm so glad that you did!

Ill be happy to help anyone with arabic convo, but im not good in fus'ha, sorry lol
alia - when you said min fii hada? (where are you from) fii is 'in', feen or ween (ween is from my syrian dialect lol)is where and 'hada' is this, so where are you from (in convo perspective) would be min feen/ween inti (female) inta (male)....fii al (or you can just say fil) blah blah is Im in...im from is ana min blah blah....My is ismi, for male or female...isma mahmoud really means her name is mahmoud :) ....your, on the other hand, would be ismak (male) ismik (female)....ummu is his mother and ummi is her mother...

Hal tatta hadith al arabiya/franchisi/inglisi = Do you speak arabic/french/english?
Min fii hada? = Where are you from?
Fii al ameriki/farancia/misr/filisteen? = I am from America/france/egypt/palesine
Ma smuka/i? = What is your name (m/f)?
Isma Mahmoud = My name is Mahmoud
Ismi Alia = My name is Alia
ukti = sister
abu = father
ummu/ ummi = mother
bint = daughter
ibn = son
Polite answer to kaifal halak = bahr, alhumdullilah (good/well, alhumdullilah)
atamana an toukouni bekhair = Have a nice day (I wish you a nice day)

That's why i've said "let's learn together" :-)My arabic is not good at all, beside i'm algerian we speak another arabic dialect mixed with french oftenly. So, any new words, grammar rules or anything else are more than welcome :-)))

It's so funny 'cause I already know these words. (sigh) I was hoping to learn more, learn verbs and how to put sentences together. Gotta memorize more nouns. Kalb is dog, and 'alb is heart. That's about all I remember. Ha, ha! Majnoon is crazy.
