Belleville Rendezvous
I took my older sister to see this at the cinema one evening when it came out... She thought my movie taste was a bit 'weird' lol But we thoroughly enjoyed this film about Madam Souza, a devoted grandmother who encourages and trains her young, lonely and melancholy grandson to take up cycling. The boy grows and enters the Tour de France but is unnexpectedly kidnapped and we see how Madam Souza comes to the rescue!
The deep and muted colour tones and sketchy drawings are what made this film such a pleasure to watch and the catchy tunes sung by the ageing old Belleville Triplets!
One thing I couldn't work out was how when Madam Souza was so cute, and so was her grandson when he was a baby, he grew up to be quite the opposite! lol
I have it on dvd and my neice and nephew love it too, definately worth watching if you haven't already seen it :)
BTW, it's in French, but really there is very little dialogue, apart from the singing!
