MANY MANY BEAUTIFUL WOMEN ARE FROM BANGLADESH,
MANY MANY SUCCESSFUL WOMEN ARE ALSO FROM BANGLADESH!!!
I KNOW OVER THE PAST FEW DECADES PAKISTANI AND INDIAN PEOPLE HAVE LOOKED DOWN ON OUR NEIGHBOURS OF EAST PAKISTAN(BANGLDESH), BUT
NOW IT SEEMS THAT BANGLADESHI PEOPLE ARE GETTING UP, WORKING HARD AND DOING VERY VERY WELL, WHETHER IT BE IN BUSINESS, RELIGION, COMMUNITY!!!
ALTHOUGH BANGLADESH IS A COUNTRY WHICH IS ALWAYS PREDICTED TO BE UNDER-WATER SOON AS IT SUFFERS MANY FLOODS.
BUT THE BENGALI COMMUNITY HAS PROVED ITSELF TO BE VERY SUCCESSFUL AND DOING VERY VERY WELL.
AN EXAMPLE FOR THIS IS;EAST LONDON, ALDGATE, BETHAL GREEN, WHITECHAPEL, (COMMERCIAL ROAD)
EVEN BOLLYWOOD HAS THE BENGALI TIGRESS OCCUPYING IT!!
WELL DONE BANGLADESH AND THE COMMUNITY BENGALI!!!!!

Anyway, It's not often that people refer to themselves as Bangladeshi. It just doesn't roll off the tongue quite as nicely as Bengali. And Bangla, as a language is all about aesthetics.
bengali is not the language. "bangla" is the language. the use of "bengali" to denote the language is a misnomer dating from the colonial period. in our own language we use "bangla" to refer to our language not bengali.
"bengali" is what pertains to the region of greater bengal, comprising both bangladesh and west bengal in india. a bengali is therefore someone whose ethnic origin is greater bengal.
bangladesh refers to a national state and therefore a "bangladeshi" is a citizen of that state.
your reference to Irish is interesting since the word is both an ethnic and national reference point, as are Scottish, Welsh and (to a lesser degree) English. Since not many people these days are Gaelic (or Celtic or Saxon or Jute or Angle) it would be inaccurate to describe oneself in such terms.

ONE THING THAT I LIKED ABOUT BANGLADESH PEOPLE IS THE FAMILY UNITY, ALL THE FAMILIES STICKING TOGETHER.....
ONE THING I WOULD NOT GO NEAR THE BENGALI COMMUNITY IS THE BLACK MAGIC,THIS IS ACTUALLY VERY VERY POWERFUL AS ITS DONE USING FISH AND THIS TYPE OF MAGIC IS VERY VERY HARD TO STOP,,,,,,,,,
BUT EVERY CULTURE HAS GOOD/BAD POINTS!!!!
CP, REASON I WAS ASKING ABOUT WHY THEY LOOK DIFFERENT IS CUZ, IN PAKISTAN WHEN YOU ARE FROM THE NORTH PART, PEOPLE ARE USUALLY VERY FAIR, BLOND HAIR AND BLUE/GREEN EYES,,,,,,
OTHER PARTS OF PAKISTAN YOU TEND TO KNOW FROM THE FACIAL FEATURES, COMPLEXION BODY TYPE,,,,,,
and apropos of what CP said --- I'm the darkest in my family. everyone else is very fair.
yes a person from bangladesh is bangladeshi.
the language is bengali although known as bangla..
although not officially correct, people most often say someone is 'bengali' rather than 'bangladeshi'. this could come from the bengali word to describe someone from bangladesh - 'bangali'
My cousin's wife is Bengali but she is very very fair and looks chinese, usually you can recognise benglai ppl from the facial features,,,,, is she from some other part of Bangladesh!!!
Rani mukrajee is from Bengal!!!
South India girls are usually very very dark but most of the bollywood and missworld winners come from that area and the women are known to have stunning features!!!!!
