bantbrick, that is the best site ever, i always go there, and would recommend that before buying a digital camera, do read their reviews :)

For around that budget, take a look at the Kodak DX6490. This isn't the latest model, but at 4MP it's more than adequate with an excellent lens and 10x zoom. What I'd recommend looking for in a digicam is primarily a good quality lens, over the no. of MP's and features. Image stablization looks really useful though, something the DX6490 doesn't have.

Two choices for that budget range. Either the Canon Powershot A95 ($270 - street) or the Nikon Coolpix 5600 ($280 - street)

I would rather have DSLR but its gonna be a family cam too so forget that... my budget is about $300
