Best way to deal with car salesmen?

As some of you know already im in the market looking for a new nissan 350 z coupe. So far after visiting 3 dealerships i am convinced that they are out to screw people.I hear all this talk about so and so great deal but if they reduce the price of the car they try to f& ck me over on financing rates. If the interest rate goes down the price of the car seems to go up and my trade in car's value goes down. Not to mention the fact that the salespeople seem to be more happy about the car than i am. A friend told me to just go and tell them how much i will give as my down payment and then see which dealership gives me the lowest monthly payment.Would that be the best way to get this done? I have spent countless hours at various dealerships and right now im sick and tired of the games they try to play with you.

Mr_Chi-town, you dont need to mention "always negotiate on the final price first". Haifa is a desi. I am sure she knows and will do that. LoL.

Honestly though if you REALLY want bang for you buck. I'd buy a slightly used one from an individual and stay away from the dealerships all together. Remember the individual is trying to get rid of the car (for the most part). The dealership is trying to make money! You can really save A LOT of money and drive a car that's only a few months old.

afgan chic's got it covered pretty much on this dept..
just another resource..
go to edmunds.com and search for the 350z.. they give you a research figure.. tmv price .. an average of what ppl are paying in a particular zip code.. print it out.. use it another tool for negotiation...
very important.. never negotiote on the financing in the beggining.. dealers mix up financing, price of vehicles etc to confuse.. always negotiate on the final price first...

I bought my 350z and I was my own salesman - and I almost wanted to shot myself (long story) anyhow first off what kind of 350z do you want, touring, track - whats your mod? Next and you might think I am nuts for doing this but get on the Nissan website and register your e-mail address on there. It will ask you want you are interested in - from than on you will get a few dealerships contacting you, let them fight for you believe me I have seen it done. Know your facts - how much the MSRP is on the car, the invoice - hold back etc. Ask around as to people who got a Z how much they got it for and get your own financing. If you are trading in a car - don't let them know you are trading one in until you got the price of the car down to where you want it. NEVER NEVER be a payment shopper - that is when you get screwed. Always negotiate the total of the car - and with outside financing you will always get a lower APR unless they are having a 0% special which they often do not offer on the Z's. Just know your facts -after you know the price you want the car for, bring in your trade and go from there. Walk out of the dealership if you have to - they will always come after you. And be realistic - don't go in there thinking you will get the car 5k under invoice, I have seen people try that and at that point nobody deals with you. Research online and if you want a good deal it might take some time, I know people who drove in from other cities because certain dealerships away from them were giving a better deal. P.S. NEVER GO ALONE =)
