Better tomorrow????

Dear villagers,

"Better tomorrow" is an optimistic village title about the future of humanity. How optimistic can we be? Or how realistic should we be? We all live in the illusion that the "Big I" of humanity, i.e. trying to conquer and control the earth and nature would make us invincible. Well, our bright and big cities make us ignore how insignificant we are in the middle of the universe, how small our earth is, how limited our ressources are, and how fragile and dependant our lives are. "Better tomorrow"? In 1900 we were 1.65 billion humans, we are 7 billion and expanding. How are we going to feed the 10 additional billion humans that will fill earth by 2050? Will there be a future to our children? Before worrying about the war in Irak or in Palestine or in Chechnya, I am more worried of more of the 20 minutes Tsunamies that killed over 200000 individuals. That's more than what the war in Irak did in 2 years. I think humanity should change its priorities and use its ingenuity to avoid our obvious destiny, a total crash of our egoistical rule of our planet (which is not "fragile"... we are fragile. Life will go on with or without us)

the duck was ok, (although probably very confused) we got the hook out of its mouth and sent it on it's way.

Wcs this village is great more people join though not as many as other villages but that's expected. I agree with Ibnadam what he said makes a lot of sense.

In the end if each of us makes a small difference it all adds up.

As to fishing the last time I went was last yearin Santa Cruz California and caught so many fish that I gave away most of it it was just too much to bring home. With deep sea fishing you never come back empty handed guaranteed :)

The beauty of this kind of a village is the parable of acorn.. you never know which one might take to the ground and one day sprout an oak. If each of us does what we can to bring light into our own lives, then the glow will illuminate our surroundings and insha'allah if enough of those sparks come together, they'll make for a bright sunny day, wallahu alam. Assalamu alaikum!

that's real cool plato I like Boston am sure you will have a good time there. I spent one year there myself and if you are into museums and arts you will enjoy your stay.

On another note we should have a "better tomorrow" deep fishing trip so any villager interested?

sure plato I'm still up to it let's go deep sea fishing sometime before end of Sept. I move to NY for 3 months after Sept and come back to northern Cali in December or January. We can also go fishing in NY it's not that far from IL :)

habibi, it's a village to toss around ideas, i don't think anyone expected us to march from this village and change the world.

the best we can probably hope for, considering we are probably mostly young and at least somewhat like minded in our desires to fix this mess we call a planet. even if we seem to have vastly different ideas on how to go about doing it (self-sufficiency, closed-borders, isolationist principles)
but maybe, just maybe

when we actually get off the ground, and start doing things, it is possible, that if a few of us stay on the paths we hope to take, and work in places that may make a difference, then the contacts and possibly the friends we make here, may serve to further our goals.

it is possible. better tomorrow isn't about tomorrow, it is about generations to come.

inshallah of the 20 or so on this village, 2 will stay the course. and when i'm leading the Revolutionary Army of the Democratic Islamic Congress of African Leftist Subversives (RADICALS), i can drop you an email and you'll bring down your Populist Enforcers of Arab Community-Building Efforst (PEACE) down from the Capitol of the United Arabian states (al-quds) and meet me in eritiria.

then we can show those eritirans whats what too!

hate mails can be good Wcs ;)

Overall I agree with you on economics but now back to the title of this village "better tomorrow". I must tell you that I find most Naseeb villages useless and full of non sense topics and comments except for very few of course. I thought the idea of the villages was to promote exchange of good ideas and knowledge that what I understood from Naseeb staff when they came up with the idea and implemented it but as this site becomes more commercial as was intended villages and other features lose their meaningful purpose and become a tool to kill time for many people.

You can already see very few people are active in this village I'd venture to say that some may find it difficult to engage in and comment on serious, meaningful subjects.

haha caarabguy, you asked for it..enjoy the hate mail :p

lets get something straight here for anyone who thinks stay at home mom is traditional and narrow minded:

women make up half of society, and they give birth to and raise the other half.......... hmmm if that's not a full time job that they should receive gratitude for, then what is? do they not owe it to society to raise good individuals? do they not owe it to themselves to have loving families?

i support the part time work idea :)

lily...i agree with 100 percent that we have to work for it. if we didnt, then we'd all be going to heaven and be a world of lazy individuals who expect the best without giving it your best. that would just be too convenient.

her belief is simply that dont worry too much about things that may happen, just work at making the best of the situation and making things work. its her belief and hope that allah will take care of those who do put in the work. aint nothin wrong with that at all.

we can all hope and want all we want, but the truth is, one isnt going to acheive anything unless theyre willing to put forth the effort. life's a test. we're tested day in day out with all of our decisions. we simply do whats best, do whats right inshallah, and hope that everything will work out. so simply, i agree with you...

ali, i loved how you phrased it, "life is a compromise". it is, and Westcoastsmile, i too would definitely put my family first if i had to make a choice, without hesitation! :) there are always many options, one just has to try and figure out a way to stay on top of everything. and despite all, i still think that just locking yourself up at home is not healthy. and besides, dads have to help out! right? back me up here, Westcoastsmile!!! :)

Waleed, i disagree with your relative's view, that Allah (SWT) will take care of them what so ever. it's true that Allah (SWT) WILL take care of them, but it's also true that we have to work and Allah (SWT) will take care of us (i3kal wa tawakkal), right?

Mutadayen, I had to prove many theories in college most of exams were about proving others' theories even in high school it was all about proving theories :(

Well I guess sometimes theories are better left as is just theories

Ali you are absolutely right life is a compromise and all about making choices it is the "single" decision that we make at some point in our life that defines priorities and shapes future.
