Big B is Gabbar

RGV continues to shock his audiences with the way his Ram Gopal Varma Ki Sholay's cast is shaping up. First Mohit Ahlawat becomes Jai and now the original Jai becomes Gabbar.

The news is that Amitabh Bachchan is onboard the film and will be playing Gabbar's role. The filmmaker is very excited about this development and says, ? The ultimate hero is playing the ultimate villain.? RGV adds that to him the hero of the movie has always been Gabbar Singh, after the film released it was this character that became legendary, it was his lines that people remembered.

The director aims to bring out various facets of the dacoit in a revamped way and for that he thinks there is no better actor Big B himself.

That's right. Sholay does have 2 endings. In the first version, the Thakur kills Gabbar.... with his nails-walli chappal! This ending was thought to be controversial....the good guys are supposed to have a bit of control on their emotions ) and not let their personal feelings interfere with the law. After all the thakur was an ex-police officer!
So they changed the end and let the police take care of Gabbar....the Thakur just injures Gabbar's arms with his nails-walli chappal.... After all Gabbar had done to his family, he couldn't let Gabbar go just like that.
By the way did anyone know that Amjad Khan was not the first choice for Gabbar. The role was first offered to Shatrugan Sinha and Danny! They had problems with the schedules and stuff...Ultimately the role was given to a new actor, Amjad Khan...and boy did he turn it into one of the most memorable roles of Indian cinema!

There are two versions of Sholay...(**SPOILER ALERT**)...there's one where Gabbar Singh goes to jail at the end, and another where he is killed by Thakur.

It's not a sequel, it's a remake. RGV is a very talented director.....but a remake of Sholay??? Such classics should be left alone. Maybe he's doing it to generate loads of publicity... which he's definitely getting! Every Indian movie fan is talking about it....I agree with Hasan786 on RGV. He's totally unconventional! One can never predict what kind of film he'll make next. let's wait and see....

RGV, has lost it, he has made some great movies now his ego is out of control. By claiming you remaking sholay you set yourself up to failure. People will expect it to be bigger and better and it cant, If I was RGV I would have remade sholay in the underworld but not have said I was remakeing sholay. Beauty of Amjad Khan's Gabbar singh was that he was the new kid on the block it was his first movie and he became the role. With Amitabh thier way to many expectations connected that will negativly affect the film. Sholay is a Master Piece and I dont think it should be remade. As Far as the the Individual that claimed sholay was copy of a western is not tottaly correct sholay and the western in question all Inspired by Akira Kurosawa, a legendary Japanesse film maker.

I think that?s where the beauty and creativity lies with RGV, one of the greatest filmmakers of our times. He goes the unconventional route, and does the least expected without caring for the critics or the box office. He lets his artist time take precedent. Everyone would have assumed Abishek to take his father?s shoes, and play his dad?s pervious role. This way RGV has made it more interesting, creating an excitement. Same with Gabbar?s role. Sanju Baba would have been the ideal and automatically thought of for the role. But clean wholesome Big B has been approached making it a much more viable and exhilarating project.

Also, I wouldn?t call it a remake per say. RGV himself has stated that he has been influenced by this movie, and this is his interpretation of it. Hence the movie?s title, RGV?s Sholay. Personally, I think the movie should be titled ?Gabar? if you ask me. But RGV is the expert here?

Finally, Sunil Shetty has been roped in for the role of Sambha?.

Peace.

The remake could work IF there is a lot of thought put behind every detail of it.

I read the story, unbelievable...Sholay is actually quite like a western, has some parts that are copying the old westerns like Once Upon a Time in the West...check it out sometime, total rip off job by Sippy boys -

The original Sholay will always be a classic and messing around with it just means trouble. I love Amitabh, but what Amjad Khan did as Gabbar, that was amazing. I was scared of him for the longest time LOL

Just want to update everyone on the cast of this film:

Gabbar: Amitabh
Veeru: Abhishek
Jay: Mohit Ahlawat
Thakur: Mohanlal
Basanti: Priyanka Chopra (unconfirmed)

By the way, I agree with you Amirlondon that Sholay is sacred and Verma is pushing it by doing a remake.
