Bird Flu spreads across Europe...hits India too !


Over the past few days, the Bird Fly virus (H5N1 strain) has rapidly spread across Europe and was today discovered in India too.

Also, virus strains resistant to Roche's Tamiflu drug have also been found, further compounding the situation. BioCryst (a spinoff from my school) has been granted a fast track review by the US FDA for its new drug Peramivir, so maybe theres some hope left for the world....






1) Has the virus hit your country ?

2) What precautions are you taking ?

3) Will you stop eating chicken altogether?

zz your site said the same thing my site did.. (below from cdc) i trust the bbc, journalists of that standard are supposed to know what they're talking about (and one of the bbc's aims is to educate)

'There is no evidence that properly cooked poultry or eggs can be a source of infection for avian influenza viruses. '

well we can always replace chicken with duck...i heard it tastes the same .. unless ducks also get afflicted with the bird flu ..

and doesnt tofu taste like chicken ?

well its "contact with chicken" ...but maybe if the chicken is cooked well enough, that might kill off the virus and it might be safer...not sure yet though.

yes BBC is good ... I like Top Gear :P

:P zz unlike foxnews, CNN etc. the ppl here do put a lot of rightly directed trust in the BBC one of the oldest and most trusted centres of information. but good point. media now days suck (H)

who says bird flu cant spread by eating chicken? its just one of many ways that bird flu can spread:

haha labs i was about to say, LOL @ eating chicken.

eating has nothing to do with it. bird flu spreads through the air by breathing. its like saying everyone STOP eating labs she has the flu.

the govt here seems to be not too bothered (to separate wild and domestic fowl), they're saying ' Don't let's panic'

and 'Flu is not transmitted by eating poultry, as "what seems to be required at the moment for these rare human cases seems to be very intimate, close contact between humans and infected chickens," ' phew for chicken eaters.

I don't there is a big scare going on here, but if there were a bunch of cases of the virus, I would stop eating chicken until the government got it under control!

france has apparently had a case today... the news reported the bird flu being 'a few hundred miles from the british mainland' *: #: .. not giving up chicken just yet... have to read the news properly before i figure out what to do next

I think it has hit most of asia, and europe, although the outbreak is isnt that severe so far.
