Black & White Magic-Does it Exist?

I have been told that under Islam there is a belief that magic exists. Black Magic is also know as 'buddh dua'.

I don't like to believe these things but have heard or think I felt the experience of both Black and White Magic.

Any information out there?

This British chick who admitted to be interested in Wicca (Witchcraft) admitted that she used majik to try to make me fall in love. Sheesh, to my surprise it almost worked, though on paper there were so many differences.

mila my mum told me her servant in pak was set alight by her in laws... her clothes were on fire.. her skin was untouched (impossible with proper fire)... her husband rushed into the room.. threw water on her.. no good.. he read some quranic verses and the fire vanished in an instant puff.... there were many witnesses... v. scary...

(note for irf, that is a v. for very, not a V for your fave drug..)

my incident concerns my divorce.. and a bracelet given by my in laws... short version.. the day my parents trashed it, i stopped getting harrassed by my ex/ his family.. didn't know these things existed till then :( :(

Irf - that Turkish charm is called Nazar Toncuk or Fatima's Eye or the Hand of Fatima, after the Prophet's daughter. This and other superstitions (like nazar) are not officially condoned by Islam but are cultural artefacts that have grown up around and been subsumed into Islamic mythology. Is it real? If you believe in it. It should be pointed out though that such beliefs are not necessary to being Muslim, though - you can believe nazar and suchlike is all a bunch of poo and that won't affect your deen.

Andro- The Turks use what I guess is a charm, it is not a prayer. Interesting, never heard of achi (good) nazar.

Andro- The desi version of Nazaar has the 'evil eye' concept? My mama is the only one that worried about that on me and my sisters. I know the Turks believe in it and have an evil eye thing hanging in their homes. Is putting something like that up un-Islamic?

Andromeda, interesting stuff about nazaar! GOSH i hate the affects of it! It's not a spell and it does exist. I always get told to put a little black dot on my face where no one can see it to ward off the nazaar lol! The dot does not help as its an old wives myth/tale ....Anyone that gets nazaar will know what i am talking about and it is painful :(

lol@ Irfani, you were not being rude, i just felt the manner was not appropriate when Religion is being dicussed. Any other time its all ok as that would be classed as general chit chat :)

ANDRO thats exactly what i was referring too 'nazar lagaya hai'...many thanks for the classification...much appreciated :o) And i've also heard it works the other way round as well as in 'achi nazar'.
