Blast destroys prominent Holy shrine in Iraq

Baghdad: An explosion destroyed a sacred Shiite shrine in the Iraqi town of Samarra north of Baghdad on Wednesday, the US military said.
There were no reports of casualties and the military said the cause of the explosion was being investigated.
"Gunmen entered the shrine at dawn and planted bombs and blew it up," Abdullah Al Jubaara, deputy governor of Salaheddine Province which includes Samarra, told reporters.
US and Iraqi forces surrounded the shrine, famous for its golden dome, and began searching houses in the area. Residents and police said damage to the dome was extensive.
A resident of Samarra said people had started demonstrations. Religious leaders at other mosques and shrines throughout the city denounced the attack in statements read over loudspeakers from minarets.
The shrine contains the tombs of the 10th and 11th imams, Ali Al Hadi who died in 868 A.D. and his son Hassan Al Askari who died in 874 A.D. and is visited by Shiite pilgrims from throughout the Muslim world. They were descendants of the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH).
The head of the Sunni religious endowment organisation, Ahmad Abdel Ghaffur Al Samarrai, condemned the attack, terming it "a criminal act".
The attack was likely to further raise tension between the majority Shiite and minority Sunni communities at a time when political factions are discussing the formation of a 'national unity' government

RECENTLY THE SHIA AND SUNNI WERE UNITED OVER THE CARTOONS THAT WERE PUBLISHED ABOUT OUR PROPHET MUHAMMED(PBUH) AND ALL MUSLIMS AROUND THE WORLD WERE SENDING EVIL MESSAGES TO THE WEST, THIS WAS BECOMING A THREAT AND IT WOULD OF STARTED A WAR,
THE WEST HAVE VERY QUICKLY AND QUIETLY BOMBED THE SHIA MOSQUE TO DIVERT THE ATTENTION OF MUSLIMS TOWARDS EACH OTHER, NOW WHEN WE SUNNI AND SHIA FIGHT AMONGST EACH OTHER THE AMERICAN WILL HAVE A GOOD EXCUSE TO STAY LONGER IN IRAQ AS THEY WILL SAY THAT THEY HAVE TO STAY TO MAINTAIN PEACE!!!
IF SUNNI PEOPLE ARE SO AGAINST SHIA, THEN WHY DID THE SUNNI TIE UP THE GUARDS, WHY NOT JUST KILL THEM AS THEY WERE SHIA,,,,

you make some good points in that there always was and will be alternating defacements of shrines of different sects (likewise the other way around), and I'm sure you don't condone the retaliation by burning the sunni mosque....this is seriously getting ridiculous and I'm one of those people that says, whoever is responsible for these attacks, may Allah punish them and punish them hard.
I still would not point fingers based on history alone though Mehnaz. Every time period and every area and event happens under different circumstances with different propaganda and different provocations. In this case in particular, it may well be possible that someone else would pull it off to detract the muslims from suddenly all joining forces (may God forbid...say the jews and Americans) to stand upfor the right thing...namely to defend our Prophet's (s.a.w.) identity and honour. To me it wouldn't seem farfetched for the Americans to pull that type of a dirty tactic not only to completely turn us all against each other...but to hit the MOST sensitive spots and most important landmarks in the right time to, justwhen things were starting to look like we find a comimon point to work together on, break evertyhing apart and even worse, cause some casualties and deaths wherever possible.
Just call it my logic. But nothing is out of their realm, the people we are dealing with, and trst me, Iran and Syria are definitely next on their agenda....no doubt about that.
Thekeeper, shias have been attacked durning Ashura for years, hundreds of years before the first pilgrims even landed in this country. Hundreds of years before some jew bought Time warner.
Open your heart and be honest with your own self, do you deny the existence of Sipah-e-Sahaba, Lashkar-e-Janghvi? Do you deny slogans like "death to shia kaafirs"? Do you deny that silkysword, your akhi, supports the slaughter of Shias. You read it yourself on this forum. Unless youre not paying attention.
If it really was "america" and Im not saying that is impossible, but if it really was, then lets knock off 200 yrs, what about the past 1200 years that Shias are attacked and killed?
What about the defacement time and time again of Shia shrines under the Abbasid dynasty?
We dont have to turn to any other media. The middle eastern media itself is for the most part doing journalistic justice. Are you saying the atatck on the Ashura juloos in Hangu, Pakistan was also perpetrated by Americans? Because the proud SUNNI majority of Pakistans credible and responsible press has identified 2 pathan suspects based on video footage of the juloos.
By allowing for the conceivable thought that this MAY be done by wahabbis, you as a Sunni are not "admitting" or "owning up" to anything, so you shouldnt think anybody blames the bulk of the Sunnis for everything.
We differentiate you lot from wahabbis, it would not be wrong for you to do it too.
Lastly, you said that you would give the benefit of the doubt to muslims. Well, the Quran guides us that many muslims are munafiqs. Im sure you agree that Yazid was not a muslim at all, he mercilessly slaughtered the Prophets grandson and entire family. He paraded his grandaughter in the streets of Shaam WITHOUT her hijab. Perhaps, these people are outside the fold of islam.
Please note, that many Shia shrines over the years have been destroyed, defaced by the wahabbi movement.
Moreover, it is possible that wahabis would have used the chaos of the the war, post-election, instability, and even the cartoons to further fanfare their attack.
Lastly, what would be concern, supposing that wahabbis did do this act. Why would that be so hard to fathom? Just wondering.

THE AMERICANS WERE THE FIRST TO DIVERT THE ATTENTION TOWARDS THE SUNNI'S AND OTHERS SUNNI SECT, BUT IF SUNNI'S REALLY WANTED TO ATTACK IT CERTAINLY WOULD NOT BE IN THE MOSQUE, AMERICAN'S HAVE TAKEN THE ATTENTION AWAY FROM THE WEST AND ARE TRYING FOR ALL MUSLIMS TO FIGHT AMONGST EACH OTHER AND BE ENERMIES,,,,, THE OLD POLICY OF "DIVIDE AND RULE"

A MOSQUE IS A PLACE OF WORSHIP AND NO MUSLIM WOULD EVER ATTACK IT,
