as851 and others - if you are interested in exactly what the word "evangelical christian" means - or other "types" like pentacostal, there is a really good book called theology of religions by ... shoot, i forget his name and i cant find the book in my shelves (still unpacking)... i'll post it later.

as851 - not exactly sure how i am a good person to answer this. :) I was never a protestant, nor was i ever much in their politics. I do agree that evangelical sects of Christianity are on the rise and are becoming more visable and audible. However, what "dimension" is the US shifting towards? are you talking about the war? just in general? I think everywhere that there is a lot of hardship, there is a rise in fundementalism - as a comfort for the people. i do not think, however, that church attendence actually stayed up after 9/11. i dont think that americans are making a shift towards a more unified state and religion - i think it has already been there. "in God we trust" is on the money. God, and belief in Him, is a part of American society. I actually do not agree with it at all... I'm for seperation of Church and State - and not just the way that our founding fathers meant (meaning no pope, no influence, etc.... they were very anti-catholic and afraid that the US would become like Europe)... but an actual seperation. the US is mainly protestant. Baptists make up the majority. However, it is a multi-religious country and should be treated as such.

very good points, As851 :) and the quest for correct, ethical justice should not be segregated between religions. this is a human problem... islam is not the only religion hijacked for a minority's (with money) seperate, and non-religious agenda.

btw, i hope he and i both are wrong, i pray that they find alternatives to war and can "help" Iraq, Iran, etc without initiating another war. Iran has been through enough!

sad as it is, i actually made a bet with a friend of mine when the "war on terror" began saying that i thought Iran was next and he said he thought syria was. (he lives in London btw). Whoever is right flies the other out for dinner.

iran "produces" terrorists, eh? What about Columbia or the myriad of other countries (including the US - esp with its "school of the Americas") that are poppin killers out faster than a mama bunny?! and how the heck do you fight terrorism?! it isn't a tangible enemy. errrr

I remeber when Talat used to lead the talk show on PTV. He was an ace at it! For some reason they replaced him with Naeem Bokhari - just before the referendum I think. NB was a true kissas of the government. NB's excellent for non-political talkshows.

Hamid Mir is very witty. Some of his on the spot one-liners are hilarious.

yeah, tim russert was always cool.

in pakistan, i'd say talat hussain stands head and shoulder above the rest of the talk show hosts. pakistani media may be free, but it's so freakin' boring and well settled in the notion that the government need not be attacked on principles.

" most of the segment was O'Reilly yelling at the other guy"

Rozaiba -

O'Reilly had me on, as I was supporting Bush, and another Arab guy, that was against Bush

most of the segment was O'Reilly yelling at the other guy

I'm with you, but I'm not too worried about O'Reilly ------- you'll notice that he can argue well on points that are well thought out........... but on points like 'Iran should have an anti-terrorism march' he usually has not developed his argument.......... and believe me, Americans aren't convinced unless there's a good argument behind it

a good exmaple would be of the 2000 recount election, in which, he put out a very thoughtful argument against the recount, which really convinced Ameirca that the Supreme Court made the right decision ------ but on the terrorism stuff, he changes his thesis every 10 seconds, and Americans simply can't follow a non-cohesive argument

HD, what you talk about on that show? Did you take him on?

I noticed Reilly gets all nice on TV when he's got Republican party non-Caucasians on as guests.

quick puppy story ----- I'm spending the summer with my parents in Colorado - but my mother insists that the house is not good for the puppy - so I enrolled Deelya into Puppy Camp here in the Rocky Mountains, so she hikes everyday with other dogs and stuff.... however, Deelya is starting to get homesick because she's acting naughty to the caretakers, and cries when I'm not there ---- I'm kinda depressed, but kinda touched too, because I thought she'd have more fun with other dogs --- long story short, I'm installing a puppy bed under my editing desk.... that way, while I edit during the day, she can just play at my feet ---- then at night, she can play with the other dogs at puppy camp --- in the meantime, I'm renovating my garage in California and turning it into a PUPPY PALACE for Deelya, with new flooring, puppy amenities, built in beds, etc...... soon, I will be purchasing another puppy.... and when I get my first paycheck, I'm gonna pull an Angelina Jolie and adopt a set of twins ---- I love being a daddy!!!!

Qaiser also comes from Ceaser don't it? So Caesar is indeed a global cross-religious cross-national phenomenon.
