BOOKMARK THIS NOOOOOOOOWWWWW

Another e-mail I received;
=============================

Greetings,

The United Nations has started a new action...

Go to UN's hunger website at www.thehungersite.com
and click the yellow button, which appears at the center of the
website.

When you do that, a hungry person somewhere in the world is given a
food allowance.

The cost of the food is paid by sponsor companies whose logos are shown
on the website. Our whole responsibility is just to go website and to
click yellow button.

This action is limited, so you can only click one time per a day.

Therefore, please send this email to all people you know, and every
morning when you turn on your computer, help these people by going this
website.

Thank you, Best Regards

Cheers
========================

Not all of your clicks will go to Kashmir, however, the fate of Kashmir earthquake survivors is high on the UN agenda.

I did verify the website as a UN poverty project.

Atifqureshi, you are right in that blind help really helps no one. Authentic help is always proactive and I agree with your philosophy wholeheartedly.

However, your - www.breakthechain.org - has had an update in the interim that you have apparently missed understandably over the past five years and all.

It reads as follows;

"UPDATE (7/26/2002) As the old saying goes, if it seems too good to be true... Well, in this case it is true! The Hunger Site is real and makes feeding the world's hungry as easy as scrolling through a bunch of ads."

At the very bottom of the VE I typed a second link which shows the website - thehungersite.com - is mentioned on the web pages of the UN itself. www.un.org

I too did not find any reference to the UN at the hungersite.com website. Hey, it's the UN and all they know how to do well is to hold their AGM's in lush tropical locales. So, I actually removed this VE and did an online check and was able to verify the link between the two by doing the following to establish the second VE link;

1 - Web search "UN" - www.un.org
2 - Click on "Welcome"
3 - Click on "Search" (near top right corner)
4 - Type in thehungersite.com into the search field
5 - Click on the FIRST search item retrieved titled, "Briefing Papers" thehungersite.com is the second last link shown when you scroll to the bottom.

6 - However, after reading your comment I went back to step 5 to make sure the UN was actually involved and not just listing a website. I did find that the THIRD search item retrieved explained how the World Food Programme (WFP - www.wfp.org - ) an agency of the UN, endorses thehungersite.com as a new way to fight third world hunger using airy-fairy language in paragraphs 26 - 29. - www.unsystem.org

THANK GOD you kept the link on your personal website! It goes on to say how you have played an important part :D ;

"Ms. Bertini said that more than 100 million clicks on The
Hunger Site (see below) since 1 June 1999 "demonstrate just how successful the Internet has
been as the means to informing people about hunger issues." The click-to-donate site has also
generated over US$3 million in contributions to WFP."

- quote dated 15th / Oct / 2000 - www.unsystem.org - paragraphs 26 - 29.

I think this is an important website, but if accurate facts are not shared with others than our credibility goes down. I've been going to this website for many years and have not found any evidence that it is affiliated with the UN in any way. Please correct that prior to sending requests for support.

P.S. My personal website has had a link to thehungersite.com from my main page for the past 5 years.

www.breakthechain.org

The Hunger Site was founded in June, 1999. Tim Kunin and Greg Hesterberg, long-time friends and co-owners of EcologyFund.com bought the Breast Cancer Site and two of it's sister sites - the Breast Cancer Site and the Rainforest Site - out of foreclosure in August, 2001. They've since added the Animal Rescue Site to their arsenal of benevolent efforts.

The site is now part of CharitiesUSA.com a network of charitable sites that use the marketing power of the World Wide Web to get corporate sponsors to donate in exchange for advertising. Proceeds generated by your clicks buy food staples that go to the Mercy Corps and America's Second Harvest for distribution to hungry people in more than 74 countries.

However, the e-mail chain letter cited above contains a few errors. The United Nations has nothing to do with the Hunger Site.

If you want to share the news of this great site with friends, don't use the chain letter above to do it. A personal note from you would be far more convincing, anyway. Break this Chain!
