Books you would recommend

salamu alaikum all,
At the risk of making this village even duller, I am starting a journal on one of my favourite topics:):) :) BOOKS!!! So what have you read lately that has made you really want to share your opinion on the particular book? What book have you heard was really good. I am looking for recommendations for myself, as the summer holidays are approaching. I also work in a bookstore people are always asking for recommendations. Please feel free to speak about fiction, nonfiction, and also your favourite book as a kid. Salam Everyone :)

I love the Kite Runner. I know this may sound weird but it kinda changed my life, or the way I think of life. It changed me. Mashallah, it was a very powerful book. My sister is gonna read it on the airplane tomorrow, I'm gonna just watch her while she's reading it to see her face expression and reaction haha. Can't wait for the Kite Runner journal.

it does indeed. ill definitely give her that much.. oh, one of the more exciting things as well is her list of 'must-reads' at the back. :) lol i think i was more impressed with that, then the ending itself.

sherg - i really enjoyed the princess except i didnt appreciate the subtle bashing of the deen at the end.. did you see it? i can understand their bitterness.. its not the place to be harnessing blame :) there is a similar one about the morrocan princess - malika oufkir. google that name if your interested in it as i forget the title. really really really gut wrenching account as well... and poookie (telluride) i loved good grief except did you find that it hit the climax and then just kinda plopped? at the end that is....

Fatima the da vinci code is a good read for the plane, easy and engrossing, no where near the quality of the kite runner but a fun read. Also try The Namesake
by Jhumpa Lahiri, great book very relateable to us 1st generationers...

hey FM i'm not much of a reader, but i would recomend the book 'Princess' it should be a good read for the airplane, you can also get the second part of the book titled 'Princess Sultana's Daughter' theyre both a real easy read and page turners :)

Asalamo Alikum ya'll. Yesterday I bought the kite runner when I went to the mall. I had no idea what it was gonna be about. I read the first chapter which was like 2 pages then I couldn't put it down. I had no work or anything so I sat in my room and read upto chapter 19. I cried 5 times. I couldn't sleep. I woke up after fajr and couldn't sleep....I read two chapters untill the sun hurt my eyes. I went to sleep. Then woke up and took the book with me to work. Finished the book. And can I just say.....that was the best book I have ever read...I cried.....and I feel like crying right now. So heartbreaking and sad. I can't even type anymore, i'm gonna go back to my tuna sandwich. Telluride thank you for recommending the book. Salam
