An extraordinary story about life, friendship, family, fear, guilt and redemption from the first novel about contemporary Afghanistan to be written in English, this performance dramatically portrays the relationship of two boys? Amir, a privileged Pashtun and Hassan, a Hazara servant? during Afghanistan?s turmoil in the 1970?s. Khaled Hosseini?s book tells a tale not only about the universal story of friendship and the childhood choices which affect our adult lives, but it also explores the culture and struggles of Afghanistan. Set first against the backdrop of inequality and violence in 1970?s Afghanistan and then in a region overrun by Taliban rule, this production provides a vivid cultural picture full of haunting images and locates the personal struggles of everyday people within the tide of history.
The performance features a professionally staged theatrical adaptation of storylines from Khaled Hosseini?s The Kite Runner performed by Aasif Mandvi from the American Place Theatre?s renowned Literature to Life Program.
The American Place Theatre is critically acclaimed as a birthplace for artistic endeavors at the crossroad of literature and live performance. In its 43-year history, the theatre has received over 30 Obie Awards and 16 Audelcos. Georgetown also welcomes Aasif Mandvi, the originator of the solo role in The Kite Runner and Wynn Handman, the co-founder and Artistic Director of The American Place Theatre who adapted and directed The Kite Runner. A noted director for over 50 years, Mr. Handman has received many awards including the 1999 Obie for Sustained Achievement, the Lucille Lortell Lifetime Achievement Award and two Audelcos for Excellence in Black Theatre Awards.

If you're interested in art, you should check most definitely check out the Hokusai exhibit at the Sackler Gallery...it's amazing.

Also, you should hit up the Kennedy Center. Seven days a week they have free musical performances on the Millennium Stage. It's one of my favorite places in DC...I've caught some sick performances there of music from all around the world. Nothing beats free live music! www.kennedy-center.org

there are poetry jams at busboy and poets, a new coffe shop/dinner place in the u st corridor. on 14th and Vst. they have a "revolutionary" bookstore in the place too... its totally a beatnik/yuppie (i know wierd oxymoron) place.. hehehe. but its cool and has free wifi, and a back room that can be rented out for parties...... do i smell a naseeb party coming up????? heheheh.

well tonight i'm playing a show in philly with metropolitan....... monday i'm playing in arlington, i better make a post, i always am last minute...... i might be around sat night.... i work at murky coffee in clarendon 8-2 on sunday, i think i'll take my ducati out for a ride after work..... not that i haven't been riding it all winter.... heheh.

That's what I was trying to get across.

u people live boring lives if you can't find the interesting stuff in dc. god, i don't have time to sit around ever, there are art openings, film festivals, outdoor film fests, shows at so many venues in arlington and dc and various art spaces. peotry jams at coffee shops, speaking of which - lots and lots of coffeeshops to visit. karoake. oh and we have a huge park called ROCK CREEK PARK!!!!! you can bike there, walk, have a picnic, rollerblade, go crazy, go to horse riding lessons, go hiking, sit by a stream. there is mount pleasant, cleveland park, the national arboreedum(sp?), adams morgan is soooo annoying now - but nice in the mornings when the partiers and suburbanites have gone home drunk, my favourite bumper sticker lately "go back to the BURBS with your SUV!!!" heheh, anyways there is eastern market, g'twon flea market, fort reno concert series (all my bands end up plying this DC institution. its an outdoor free local bandconcert series in the summer.... we have a music scene that is worshiped all over the world, with fugazi, dismemberment plan, trans am, supersystem, q and not u, velocity girl, too name a few). god i'm gonna stop..... you should sit at home and be bored if you don't have the initiative or drive to do creative things or find out about the diverse culture here..... the embassies have events open for the public all the time too... france, italy, indonesia, germany to name a few fun ones. geez "you only live once" mean anything to you? (sorry if i sound a bit mean, but i can't believe you say you're bored out of your mind, be adventurous, whats the worst that could happen? you die? well at least you were having fun, rather than choking on a grape at home.
