BORN TO BE MUSLIM
By Yusuf (Joseph) Abdilla
Accepted Islam in December 2001 at the age of 17
As a child I was baptized in the United Church, but growing up there was no strong religious influence. When I did think aboutChristianity the thought that went through my head was, if theyworship Jesus, where does God come in?
I thought to myself that this is a contradiction and cannot be true. I thought if this is what I'm being told is the truth, and it's obviously false, then why should I believe in it?
It was then that I became a self-proclaimed Christian-Atheist. After that I fell into a declining depression that took me to the lowest point of my life.
With the progressing depression and at the time professing atheism, I had no other place to go, so
I asked God: God, if you're real and you exist, please help me!
It was around this time that September 11th had happened. Now Islam had become an issue and a topic that was talked about. Islam was then introduced to me. The life-altering information had come to me, and it was at this time that the course of my life was about to take a drastic change for the better.
