Bringing Faith, Meaning and Peace to Life in a Multicultural World-4-
The continuous chain of Prophethood was the only foolproof guarantee for the achievement of the divine objective. For this purpose Adam, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Ishmael, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, Aaron, David, Solomon, John, Jesus Christ were raised. And the last Prophet, Hazrat Muhammad (peace be upon him) was raised after them to complete the chain of prophecy and serve as the terminal point of divine revelation. These prophets brought Divine guidance in from of Books and Scriptures. Taurat (Torah) was revealed to Moses, Zabur (Psalms) to David, Injil (Gospel) to Jesus Christ, and Qur?an to Muhammad (PBUH). A number of other Holy Scripture were revealed to various prophets but all these divinely revealed scriptures were characterized by a unity of purpose. Their aim was to guide mankind on divinely endorsed lines of instruction for the attainment of the global peace, justice and eternal salvation.
Said NURSI states the importance of Prophethood in these words;
The essential nature of life also looks to the pillar of ?belief in the prophets,? and proves it indirectly. Yes, since the universe was created for life, and life is a greatest manifestation of the Pre-Eternal Self-Subsistent One, a perfect inscription of His, a most beautiful work of His art; and since the Eternal Life shows Itself through the sending of prophets and revealing of scriptures, for if there were no Books or prophets, that Pre-Eternal Life would not be known-just as it is through his speech that it is understood that a person is alive, so too it is prophets and the scriptures they bring that make known the words and speech of the One Who speaks from beyond the World of the Unseen, beneath the veil of the universe, Who commands and prohibits and utters His address-then certainly just as the life in the universe testifies decisively to the necessary existence of the Pre-Eternal Ever-Living One, it looks also to the pillars of belief the ?sending of prophets? and ?revelation of scriptures,? which are the rays, manifestations, and communications of that Pre-Eternal Life.
He writes again;
Divine power does not leave the ant without leader, or bees without a queen; It surely would not leave mankind without prophet or code of laws. In any case, the order of the world demands this.
According to SAID NURIS, the aim of all these prophets was not self-promotion but the improvement of mankind. These Prophets were raised to break the shackles of man's monopolization of man and to lay the foundations of a New World Order that insures global peace and justice regardless of race, color and geographical identities by instilling the fear of God into man. He writes;
Among the principles of the line of prophethood concerning social life are those of mutual assistance, magnanimity, and generosity. These have been harnessed for the help and assistance of all things from the sun and moon down to even plants. For the assistance of animals, for example, and the help of animals for human beings, and even that of particles of food for the cells of the body. Whereas, among the principles of the line of philosophy concerning social life is that of conflict, which springs from the misuse of their inborn dispositions by a number of tyrants, brutish men, and savage beasts. Indeed, they have accepted this principle at so fundamental a level and at such a general one that they have idiotically declared: ?Life is a conflict.?
That is why all these prophets were models of selflessness and altruism who sacrificed their personal comforts for the general comfort and convenience of mankind. That is why their submission was declared the submission to God and their fellowship was announced the fellowship of the Lord. It is stated in the Holy Qur?an.
Whoso obeys the messenger, obeys Allah.
Jesus Christ said;
He who receives you receives me, and he who receives me receives the one who sent me.
It is also important to note that all the Prophets, Divine Books and Scriptures bear the same purpose and message, the same teachings such as the Oneness of God, the Prophethood, the obedience of Divine law, the concept of the Day of Judgment, dignity of man, human rights, social justice as prescribed by Quran; There was no inconsonance and contradiction in the basic philosophy of the religion and fundamental structure of the teachings communicated by them.
