BULLS VS WIZARDS
Tribune staff reporter K.C. Johnson handicaps the Bulls-Wizards series.
GUARDS
Chris Duhon played well in the season series, and Washington doesn't have a perimeter defender as solid as Kirk Hinrich. But Gilbert Arenas and Larry Hughes are having All-Star-type seasons and averaged 30.3 and 20.5 points, respectively, in the series.
EDGE: WIZARDS
FORWARDS
Both teams are missing a starter with Luol Deng and Jarvis Hayes out. Antawn Jamison is averaging 17.3 points and 12.3 rebounds in the series and Jared Jeffries (8 points, 8 rebounds) has been surprisingly effective.
EDGE: WIZARDS
CENTER
Who is the Bulls' starting center, Othella Harrington or Antonio Davis? Brendan Haywood has averaged 8 points and 8 rebounds against the Bulls and has been an adept shot blocker. The Bulls' veteran depth makes it a draw.
EDGE: EVEN
BENCH
This is no contest. Ben Gordon is averaging 17.6 points against the Wizards, whose bench has been outscored 115-37 in the season series. Tyson Chandler was ejected early in the last meeting but had averaged 10 points and 15 rebounds in the other two games.
EDGE: BULLS
COACHING
Both Scott Skiles and Eddie Jordan will receive Coach of the Year consideration. Several opposing players have credited Skiles' sets all season. Jordan was seen as Byron Scott's go-to mind in two New Jersey trips to the NBA Finals.
EDGE: EVEN
INTANGIBLES
Both teams have weathered a slew of injuries, with Hughes, Jamison, Haywood and Hayes missing time for Washington. The Bulls are a better road and defensive team, which bodes well for the playoffs.
EDGE: BULLS
K.C. Johnson's prediction: BULLS IN SEVEN
The season series
Dec. 4 in Washington: WIZARDS 95, BULLS 88
Feb. 25 in Chicago: BULLS 97, WIZARDS 90
April 13 in Washington: WIZARDS 93, BULLS 82
