c. diff sucks

Seriously - c. diff really sucks. I mean I have a patient who came in for drainage of a perianal abscess. So we I and D the guy, start him on antibiotics, and watch. Standard protocol, right? Then next thing you know there's a c. diff outbreak in the ward and patients are crapping like there's no tomorrow. Ahh....the sweet smell of flatulence can not be denied indeed. Poor nurses. Imagine how the patients feel! The culprit? Good ole clostridum difficile. The irony is you start antibiotics to treat infections then you get another one! What's the end result?

Well....the end result is everything winds up going to shit, literally.

C. diff, you truly are my enemy.

the worst part about it is......wiping your hands with alcohol--> does nothing to c dif. Damn spores are all over the place. the patient wipes, and then in their room touch everything on the bed, table, light switch. Thats how its transmitted. It the nurses and us that are the culprits, spreading it like wildfire.

he he I work on a GI floor and I think its a pleausre when we get a patinet with c-diff to take care of the entire shift of 12 or 16 hrs. I think that assignment is the managers way of getting back to that nurse for not saying yes to the overtime the next day. That poor patinet always feels so bad no matter how much one tries to explain, its not their fault. However in couple of hours one can get used to it like any other smell.
