Caffeineaholics Anonymous

While I look forward to the Holy and Special Month of Ramadan, I 'fess...I dread at the thought of not having my morning caffeine in the morning right before work.

You see, there have been many rapid changes in my company and in recent months, I've been peppifying myself in the morning with caffeine to ensure alertness. No, I dont perform brain surgery, but it is still very important for me to stay wide awake at work, especially these days.

So, I ask my fabulous fellow fasting friends, how do you stay awake and alert? Tips? Suggestions? Anything?!??!?!?!? (yes, you can see the freaked-out-ness already!) *:

I drink a cup of tea in the morning and coffee in the afternoon and pepsi during the day and tea again in the evening. Can you say addicted? I have been cutting back in the past couple of days, so far no caffeine yet today, hopefully I can hold out the rest of the day. I drink tea in Sehri and also during ifthar during Ramadan. I don't know if that helps.

Asscher, Nannouse: I think you're right. I had thought about that too, and staying up from sehri seems to be the best viable option.

Ttmm: Weaning off sounds like a great start - i guess the pain killer med can be popped during sehri too. Seems like Tylenol is definitely gonna be a staple part of my sehri meal :)

Ttmm - that's a great idea, see I think if we all fasted teh sunna - Mondays and Thursday's - Ramadan would be much easier, I'm alos not looking forward to skipping my coffee, and it's always hard the first week, my boss made a comment about me doing whatever it takes that so that no one senses that I'm fasting - what jersk eh? So I promised I'd wake up early and have a cup of coffee and a big breakfast ... so I suggest that

I think once youre rid of the dependency, tea/coffee would work even better after ramadan. gives more meaning to the term, fasting cleanses your body.

When I read that the prophet (pbuh) used the month of shaban to prepare for ramadan, the first thing that came to mind was CAFFIENE. because of my caffiene sensitivity, Im a black tea drinker. When shaban began I skipped a cup a day to wean myself off of the addiction. Took tylenol for the headaches and then slowly moved to a lighter brew (earl grey morning--less caffience). Yesterday i fasted just to see if it was working and it was: less withdrawal. Today, I skipped my morning tea and popped a painkiller. Im hoping my systems flushed out before the month starts. inshaAllah/. you guys can try this too.

yes....i too expect to go through caffeine withdrawal. i was thinking that maybe the best thing to do is go to sleep VERY early.......hopefully that would help in waking up for sehri.....drink your coffee/chai at sehri, and then do not go back to bed......just stay up til u gotta go to work.

i'm a night owl though, so this is much easier said than done.
