Calling all accountants!

Hi, I'm thinking about majoring in accounting but I just wanted to know a little more about it before I make up my mind. So if there are any accountants out there *or people majoring in it right now* let me know what it's all about, what my strengths need to be in, anything to expect, or tips to get me through it. Thanks :)

Accounting has many diverse fields that you can go into. If you workd for a CPA firm, you'll be doing lot of number crunching. You'll have to acquaint yourseld through legal codes. You'll pretty much feel like an attorney. If you work for a private company you'll most likely be into management and get the bigger bucks. But I would recommend atleast few years of public work before going private. You can also work for the IRS or the FBI. The field is very secured once you are good with it. For me it is pleasantful and definitely worthed.

Accounting is a lot about attention to detail. However, there is more to crunching numbers, people/communication skill is becoming very important. Now more than ever you have to deal with different people at work (some may/may not know accounting lingo) this is where you interact and solve problems. It doesnt hurt to have a head for numbers.
