I don't know about where you are, but in Australia most jobs in research are not advertised very widely. The best way would be to approach companies or job agencies that specialise in having databases of science and engineering vacancies (ie Kelly Scientific). Another way to go is maybe doing a year at Uni involved in research. Most academic staff give jobs to people who do well in such instances. Good luck!
